Do I have adult ADD?

I find it very difficult for me to concentrate on any one task for a length of time and constantly need something to stimulate my brain. Its especially pronouced at work where I have found myself getting in trouble when I lose the focus and concetration needed to preform a certain task. Its much better when Im working in a capacity that allows to do many diffrent tasks at once, than I'm able to focus in better but if Im stuck doing only one thing I tire quickly and look for other things to stimulate my intrest and brain.

Details also arent my strong suit and I can never remember names and dates. Faces and the general time sure but not the specifics.

I'm also what you call an under-achiever when I was in school, one who prolly could've gotten straight A's all the time but I often just lacked the focus and organization to get it done no matter what I tried.

If I'm someone who does have ADD how can I find out for sure and what treatment options are available?

It sounds like ADD, yes. I would see a psychologist first before a doctor though. Don't allow meds to be your simple fix. Also look at your lifestyle (what you eat for example) because that can also be altered to help you to better concentrate. A counselor will help you through this. It also helps to seek a second opinion.

It's not ADD. It's our society of instant everything. You can change channels every two seconds, you can read blogs, which are shortened versions of real books. Video games and soda machines give instant gratification.

It's the environment of our world. We are always rushing and moving fast. There's no patience in the world.

I don't now how to help you. Try sitting quietly in a room for five minutes without doing anything, including watching the clock. Learn to focus your attention and stay on task by continually doing the same thing over and over until it's done. Stay tough and on target.

    Good luck.

ADD is yet to be a proven fact in children or adults.

My 50 yr old brother suffered from similar symptoms, but its not ADD. See the doc and explain the symptoms, there is some medicine that will help you stay focused.

theres no such thing as "adult" ADD. its just ADD. i wish i could help you but i have OCD. obviously not the same thing. there might be some medication for ADD, but you'll never know until you go to the doctor.
