What is the best way to treat a ruptured muscle in your upper back.?

I got this from a weight lifting injury in February so its been almost 6 months. It still hurts really bad. We originally thought it was a problem with some small disk herniations that I have, but I took my MRI to a nuerologist and he said it was a ruptured muscle that is causing all of my problems. I am currently taking IB Profin 800, but have received conflicting reports from doctors about physical thearapy and whether I should use Ice or Heat. If somebody knows the best way to treat this will you please let me know
