Transitioning out of government job to private: How did you do it?
I currently work in city government and have advanced to the top. I moved up so fast that I only have 2 years of procurement and 1 year of financial analysis, now I'm executive director. I'm not happy wit hthe money I make and I need to get another job. I have BA in Econ, MS in Tech Mgmt - IT, and an MBA. I've been all over the job boards and talked to people in my network and nothing has come up in over 3 months.... What else can/should I do??

I think it's smart to start looking elsewhere as soon as you feel dissatisfaction, but timewise, I feel it might be wise if you stay a bit longer so that you have more than 1 year of financial analysis. 1 doesn't seem like a lot, whereas 2 years sounds more impressive. Can you tough it out for another year? They're gonna wonder why you weren't happy and they might not buy the argument that you were simply dissatisfied with the salary ,, While that might be true, you need to be aware some sharp interviewers will try to "dig" to see if there's more to that story, so be prepared to elaborate on what you like about your current job. Remember, that's a fairly common interview question! (i.e., "What do you like about your current job?")

Well, lessee...you have a government (albeit city government) job...pretty secure there, don'cha think? Nothing has come up through your "network". Hm. Gee, tough choice.
Take a look at prices of stuff nowadays, and the job market. The choice gets easier.
