My cat is pretty old and she's not eating much, I know she'll eat tuna if we giver her that?
So if I feed her tuna packed in water a few times a week to get some weight on her is there anything wrong with that? She has a lot of urinary tract problems and I've seen that tuna can actually help that in cats. I know that for most cats its not good but it has to be better then her not eating!
I guess I should have added that we go to the vet about once a month... I am very good about taking my cat and dog when they are sick... She's always on meds for the urinary tract problems and a special diet (which she doesn't like)!
And what is this first person taking about with a free exam? We don't have that where I live!

give her whatever she'll eat, tuna, chicken, turkey etc.
as long as shes eating something it won't hurt, its not as if you are giving her 'bad' treats packed with sugar.
also older cats do tend to eat less as they are not moving around as much during the day, bit like old people.

if she doesn't like the special food she is on, then you might want to consult with your vet, or even another vet about her diet and find one she does like.
If you are looking to supplement her diet with human canned tuna, you'll want to keep it to no more than 10% of her diet. It doesn't have the necessary vitamins and minerals, and tuna does deplete the cat of vital nutriants. If you are talking cat food tuna, then you are probably ok, but why continue to feed the 'prescription diet' if you aren't going to stick to it.. There is some discussion about why tuna is bad.. nothing scientific has been documented.. so if she eats it and it doesn't effect her negatively then I'd say feed it. It is important that a cat eat.
Urinary issues usually can be solved by feeding a high protein, low carb diet. Most OTC canned food (pate/loaf kinds, not the bits, shreds, or chunked kind) fit the bill. You can buy friskies or 9-lives or go to a pet store and buy premium brands
Check out http://www.catinfo.org/ for more info on species appropriate diets, and why high protein/low carb is the best diet out there.. it is a site run by a vet

Contrary to popular belief, tuna is NOT good for cats. The vegetable oil in tuna is polysaturated fat, which is too difficult for a cat to metabolize. Tuna is also high in mineral salts that can form bladder stoned. It also robs the cat's body of vitamin E. If enough of this vitamin is depleted the cat becomes at risk of developing a painful condition called "steatitis." This condition causes the fat in a cat's body to become hard. The first visual signs include a greasy, dull coat. The lumps of fat begin to develop under the skin. As the condition progresses the cat becomes extremely sensitive to being touched and movement is painful. A cat who becomes a "tuna junkie" will eventually refuse to eat anything else. It's not unusual for tuna-addicted cats to become nervous or aggressive.

Feed her a mix of tuna and special senior dry food or you can do it separately but i find they will only eat the dry if it is with the wet. When they are old they can benefit from more meat but they also benefit from carbs more than ever. Carbs are not essential in a cats diet but they can benefit from it and the same goes for vegetables. More meat is really great for old cats though and it is much more palatable for them.

hey hun .. i dont think theres really anything wrong with it, i feed my cats tuna once in a while.. but honestly i really think you should take her to the vet, because she still needs her sorce of cat food you know ? & sry to hear about your cat & her having a lot of urinary tract problems, have you taken her to the vet for that too?
i love cats and i hope she gets better!! take her to the vet though.

i think that she will be fine just give it some time... hide some cat food in her tuna so she will get used to the taste... or just get different cat food cause maybe she doesn't like what she has... it also depends on how old she is

i think you should try it,
if the cat continues to act that way
just take her to a vet for a free exam
:)
i hope your cat feels better
