Is there anything legal I can do about a neighbor who plays his drums very loud during the day for hours?

We live in a stretch with several apartment complexes. The guy lives in another complex that faces my place. He plays the drums very loud; its as if we were at a rock concert for hours! I'm sick of it and I know that trying to reason with his type will not do.

Check with the police what the nuisance laws in your area are. It may be that during the day, more noise is allowed.

Even if you think that "trying to reason with his type" won't work, it is in your best interest to approach him in a calm and rational manner and discuss the issue. Are there practice rooms in the area that he can rent out? Explain how the noise adversely affects you, and try to arrange a schedule that works for both of you.

If this still doesn't resolve your problem, you will need to check on your local noise ordinance laws. These vary from place to place, so I can't tell you whether or not your neighbor is actually doing anything that violates those laws. Try a search for "noise ordinance laws [your city]" and see what comes up.

If your neighbor *is* in fact in violation of noise ordinance laws, you can let him know that you will call the police unless he stops. After that, call the police and report him. If the noise continues despite this, you may be able to sue your neighbor in a court of law. For this, you would need to get in contact with a lawyer specializing in real estate and noise laws.

You may also consider speaking to *his* landlord about the problem.

Maybe you should actually talk to the guy before you assume that he's just not going to comply. He may not realize its a nuisance to others if nobody tells him so.

So just talk to him about the noise and if he refuses to do anything THEN talk to the police and make a noise complaint.
