Taking cat on long road trip- Help!
In just a few days, we'll be moving from Maryland to Florida. We're taking two vans. We have a cat and a dog. The dog will be fine, but we don't know what to do with our cat. The only times she's been in the car was for trips to the vet, and she'd meow her head off.
What's the best thing to do for her? Should we separate the dog and cat? Should we keep her in a cage? What about at the hotel-Should we keep her in her cage there too?
I've heard about a Calming spray-does that actually work?
Any advice please and thank you!

We moved with our cat from up north to AZ. She meowed a while, then settled down. The movement of the car seemed to cause her to sleep most of the way. Always have the pet carrier handy, bc if you get out at the rest stop or for gas, then you don't want your kitty bolting off. Always keep her confined *before* opening a door. She should be fine. Just offer food and water at reasonable intervals. Keep a clean, small litter box on the floor of the vehicle.

You should have your cat in a carrier of sorts and with one of those adapters that hooks to the seat belts. Because splattered kitty all over your windshield in the event of a crash is never fun to clean. The trip may be a bit too long, probably won't be as bad if you stop several times a long to the way to let the cat out to stretch and do its thing. I think your gonna have one angry cat on your hands tho after that trip. You could also take them to the vet before hand were they may be able to induce a tranquilizer to help relax the cat so it might not seem like such a stressful big event to your pet.

One thing that you can do, is have her in a cage and put it in the darkest spot in the car. And put a dark sheet over it. But remember it is a cat, and cats DO NOT like car rides. And when you get to the hotel, let the cat roam free! She will need the independence!

Yes, for the safety of you and your cat, keep it in a carrier. As for making it easier on the cat, check at your local Petco or Petsmart to see if they carry any calming pills to give to your cat. If not, check with your vet to see if they can give you anything. As for calming sprays, I don't know if they work or not. The pill form for dogs works but I don't know about cats.
