Kitty Condo/Indoor Climbing Tree-pros and cons?
Lizzie will be 4 months old on sunday,,just the other day she was able to jump and reach the kitchen counters and book shelves..oh my, jumping onto and into anything she can...So,,,is this the time to get her an indoor (she is an indoor cat) climbing tree that is acceptable to climb, or will this just encourage her to jump on other things????
I know many people scuff their cats, personally i never use my hands or feet to disipline her, i do pick her up to remove her from things, but dont want her to associate my hands with something bad, they are for loving her..
i have already taught her that hands are not toys, if she wants to play wrestle, i use a stuff toy...

I don't know how we would live without our cat trees around here. There's never a moment that a cat isn't on them. I would definitely get her one. Cats need a place where it's ok to be a cat. These from Armarkat are the best quality and value I've found.

I would definitely recommend a cat tree - my cat just loves her's. I have one for her upstairs and one downstairs. Ours have the sisal rope on it, which she prefers for scratching. I also play with her a lot with feather wands, and also recently found these balls that have feathers on them too. She is a hunter type :) so prefers these toys. She still tries to get on the counters and stuff, but I just tell her "no" in a firm voice and remove her right away, placing her on the cat tree so she can climb. Over time she has lessened the climbing on inappropriate things behaviors. A cat tree would keep your kitten entertained, so definitely go for it!

You can't change the nature of a cat. If you want to buy your cat a tree, then find a stable tree, because your cat will get bigger. I taught my cat how to play milk ring toss. Your cat wants you to play with her. Buy her a cat tree or scratching post, some cat toys. The folks at Smart Cat should be able to help.http://www.esmartcat.com/

You probably can't go wrong with a kitty condo/tree. Cats seem to really enjoy those and it will encourage her to that rather than your counter tops etc. as long as you reinforce with her that the kitty condo is hers and that the counter is yours. As for discipline, I use a spray bottle with water for my cat. It's been very effective keeping him off the counters and it doesn't hurt him, it just freaks him out to see the water coming at him haha.

Good idea. This will distract her from jumping on other things and get rid of energy she doesn't need in a house. Scruff her and get here there if she climbs or jumps onto anything she shouldn't. Happy B-Day, Lizzie!

nicely, I used a pray bottle on my cat, yet he ended up being afraid of folk after that. My different cat use to climb on the wood, so I positioned the cat in a play pen and used toys to maintain her occupied the full time.
