Spiritually speaking, have you ever noticed that when one group is reviled, others are not far behind?
I was willing to understand her POV - we all have our opinions - until she added all the edits - esp. the last one.
The problem is, that she is not the only person I've seen to espouse this attitude.
Have you folks noticed this as well?
Interesting take, Dogma. I had not thought of that. THIS is why I post - to get different opinions and takes on these items!

i DEFINITELY don't think she was trying to equate this with the Jewish struggle. Dogma is overcompensating in being nice. :-)
between that question and her profile, i think she's a reasonably intelligent woman who's never learned how to use it. in other words, she thinks herself into some pretty bizarre corners by trying to logic through her knee-jerk emotional responses.
things like suing over e-mails. ooh. she knows that isp addresses can be traced, but nothing about what constitutes harassment, libel or other actionable offense.
and that end. she's heard a phrase. she's heard that young were indoctrinated under it. therefore, in her mind, it's appropriate to use it (complete with misspelling) because she views the pledge cards as indoctrination of the young. sigh.
you're absolutely right, plushy, prejudices travel together. when one group is devalued, it makes it that much easier to devalue another.
our education systems are generally lousy, designed to teach conformity rather than analysis, so yeah, we see a lot of this. people who have the intelligence to come to better conclusions and don't know how.

A red flag for me is when people feel it necessary to deny that they hate anyone but...
That's generally when they're about to demonstrate just how hateful they are.
You should also understand her comment in the context of California Prop 8 and the massive movement to pass it, esp. by allegedly non-political fundamentalist and Mormon churches. They catastrophized the results of gay marriage--the next thing, kids would be going on school-sponsored field trips to gay wedding and being taught about gayness in kindergarten, and all of the religious groups would be forced to marry gay couples or close down.
As for the Hitler reference: it's a violation of Godwin's Law, which means she automatically loses the argument. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law

Last night someone asked why Jews are hated. One of my contacts answered: "I like Jews..... dead."
He promptly became an ex-contact of mine. As long as I'm Heathen, I'm sure we're cool. If I were to convert to Judaism, I'd be the enemy.
Why? Who knows? It's not logical.
answer: the nitwit in that question is probably still dealing with a lot of self hatred and is overly paranoid of homosexuality. Shame to live like that.

I actually thought SHE was the one with the Nazi attitude with her intolerance and trying to create this atmosphere of paranoia about the gay community. I just can't believe the entire Hail Hilter thing...that was totally ignorant and this situation in no way parallels the horrors of WWII. I think she was being melodramatic.

i'm reminded of that quote from that rabbi about the holocaust, but i don't remember it exactly. it was something like this:
first, they came for the communists, but i'm not a communist, so i didn't worry.
then, they came for the calvinists, but i'm not a calvinist, so i didn't worry.
then they came for the gypsys, but i'm not a gypsy, so i didn't worry.
then they came for me, but there was nobody left to save me.
repression always spreads. the kind of people who believe in discrimination are never happy unless they have someone to discriminate against. if you don't want to end up as the victim, you must stand up for anyone who is targeted.

Its pretty sick. I wonder if she was trying to imply that her struggle with this is equal to that of the Jews?
Either way, its just as sick.
I'd email her, especially since her profile threatens to sue...

Where did that kid get that thinking? ("Kenny, you're mom is black!") It could have come from their very own group, and the kid picked it up.
