There's the first day the freshmen move into the dorm -- that's always exciting, because you're setting up your room, maybe meeting your roommate for the first time, etc. You'll probably have a freshman orientation counselor or a hall advisor that will help you by showing you around and arranging a few activities. You may be there up to a week before classes actually start. By the time classes start, you'll probably be annoyed that you have to go to class and skip all this fun stuff! Just remember that at college, almost EVERYONE is "new" and doesn't know too many people -- even if there are people from their high school there, they will probably not end up hanging with them very much. The dorms usually organize lots of social activities that help people get to know each other. You'll probably hang out with your roommate a lot at first (unless you get a really bad one :-( ) and you'll meet people on your hall. You'll join in with groups from the dorm at first to go to dinner, go to the student store, go to a football game, etc. But some people will know other people, you'll meet other people not in your dorm, and when classes start, you'll meet people in your classes.

You go from being in class from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm, and having to account for every moment of your time, to having only two or three classes a day and no one who cares what you are doing. You might be finished with all your classes by 10 AM, and have the entire day left to do whatever you want. You have to figure out how to scheduled studying, meals, going to athletic events, doing laundry, joining clubs, socializing, etc., and getting everything done.

I commute to college, so even though I have been there for 3 years there are a lot of people I don't know or have never met.
