How long has anyone had a stray kitten hide inside?

Our Siamese stray has been hiding for 3 months behind the Stereo unit in our outside office where we can't get to it. We've tried every idea that has been presented here on Yahoo and nothing works. Play, food, talking, nothing. It comes out at night when we are sleeping and eats and plays. Only thing left is trapping it and I don't think that would be a good idea, it's very frightened and that may make it worse.

When it accidentally sees us it's like it has never seen a human before and hisses if we try to get near.

How long has anyone had this situation with a kitty. We think it's about 6 months old now.

This is terrible. I think trapping it is your only option. I wish you'd done it right away because then you could have socialized it by now, now you will have even more socializing to do because the longer you wait the more damage done. Please trap that kitty this weekend and start the process!

This is the first of what looks like a very good series:

Not the same situation but we had a 6 month old cat we got from a shelter who did the same thing after we got it home. This went on for 2 weeks maybe. we tried food toys, just leaving him alone and nothing worked. One day we gave him some cat nip and basically got him high. Well it worked and had him for another 15 years before he passed.

  • My dad, was at his house one night the year was...1982. My dads friend came over from hunting, is was raining and cold out. He went out for a cigarette and came back in telling my dad that he had let his cat in. My dad replied, "I dont have a cat." My dad took the cat to the vet and the vet said he was AT LEAST a year old, i was born in 1991 and he died last year 2008 on july 14. He was a great cat. Just feed it, maybe some tuna, he probably hasnt tasted it before, and you could befriend him through his stomach

i have a cat that is the same way. i have had him for almost 2 years. and it has taken me this long to get him to come up to me for pets. what i did so that he would not hide is feed him tuna and at that time i was feeding raw food, he would get on the stove when i was fixing it i would halve him take food out of my hand. make him come out to get the tuna or what ever you decide to feed him. it will take time and patience. and maybe if he does come out and you can catch him put him in a different room that he can't hide in something that you can't get to. and just work with him. and when you do get him to come up to you on his own you will feel very happy. i know that i brag to anyone that will listen to me that what i have accomplished LOL.

    Hope This Helps

    Good Luck!!
