ARMY WIFE asked in PetsCats · 1 decade ago

My cat is in heat, what can I do to help her feel better other than put her out?

I cannot afford to have her fixed yet. I have to wait a couple more weeks. She has been in heat for a month now and I'm going nuts. I feel for her because she actually seems to be absolutely miserable. I was wondering if there was someone who knows if there is something I can do to help ease her misery while we wait (baby motrin, tylenol, god anything). I'm getting her fixed, to that there is no doubt. There are enough kittens in the world. UGH!

And please don't tell me something stupid just to get points. I am looking for a real answer. Thank you.

Do not give her human painkillers: they are toxic to cats. Besides, she's not in pain, just going nuts with frustration!

Are you sure she is in heat? (Crying, very affectionate, putting her butt in the air). Just in case there is something else going on: eg if she is wandering around crying, doing little pees all over the place (or trying to) it could be a urinary problem. In which case you need to get her to the vet soon.

If you put her out besides getting pregnant you could also lose her, and she could pick up an infection such as FLV or FIV.

You are doing the right thing getting her done. Hang in there! Or try and borrow the money so you can get it done sooner!

There really isn't anything you can do for her. Don't give her any human medication, it could do more harm than good. And, don't put her out unless you want a litter of kittens. When cats are in heat it feels like it lasts forever, but if it really has been a month you might give your vet a call. That sounds like a long time to be in heat to me. They may want you to bring in her to be checked, but it's worth a phone call. I can empathize with you. I once lived in a studio apartment with two unspayed female cats who went into heat at the same time. I knew for sure that I would lose it! The cats got spayed the week they went out of heat!!! Good luck and keep your wits about you!

the only factor you're able to do is spay her. no longer something will artwork in any way in any respect. Google "affordable spay (your zip code)" for the close by places -- you in all probability would desire to get her in day after today. affordable spay is approximately $60 for a cat in warmth, and that they spay 6 days each and every week, 8 hours an afternoon. good good fortune!
