Is it time to drop the principles set forth by the Constitution?

I have noticed that when someone mentions the constitution, the founding fathers, or the limits on government power on this site they get hit by the thumbs down. I have also noticed that there is a lot of people who think that the government have the responsibility to insure every aspect of our well being is taken care of at the expense of the government and ultimately the tax payers. What I would like to get here is a consensus of how many people believe the constitution no longer should apply to our government/ country. Obama has pushed socialism to new heights but both parties have pushed the socialist agenda for over 80 years. Do you think it is time to return to the constitution or time to consider it a relic of years gone by?

Update:

For the people who say the 2nd Ammendment is out dated I have to disagree. It is more relivant now than it has been at any time since the Revolutionary War. The second ammendment was set to paper in order for citizens to protect themselves against tyranical government and to protect private property.

Update 2:

Obama may be a constitutional scolar but he either did not understand his lessons or he did not agree with the founding principles. Redistrabution of wealth is not supported by the Constitution. Obama is not the first president to take part in the wrongful use of tax dollars nor is his party the only guilty party.

Our rights as human beings on this planet are inalienable...no dictator can change that

Lets be clear, the 2nd amendment was written to protect us from any form of government that tries to take those inalienable rights away...it was NOT written for the sake of deer hunting or a foreign invasion.

Anybody who says the Constitution is an outdated document does not understand that history is full of tyrant governments, fiat currencies, and war. These are not new issues of our time...These issues have existed for as long as humans have discovered what control combined with money can actually achieve. World domination is a timeless concept.

And if Obama is such a "Consitutional Scholar" than why hasnt he reversed ANY of Bush's unconstitutional legislation and executive orders? The Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act, John Warner Act, NSPD 51, HSPD20 etc... should of been nullified on Day 1....and we are still waiting for those topics to even be mentioned.

Federal Emergency Mismanagement Agency, communist welfare state programs, Department of Education, EPA, OSHA, CAFE "standards" are all unconstitutional invasions of our lives prohibited by the Tenth Amendment in that they are not permitted by any other part of the Constitution. Annual pay increases for members of Congress are prohibited by the 27th Amendment. The Executive has no authority to fire the head of a non-government company. Nothing in the Constitution allows for the use of "Executive Orders" to bypass Congress and the proper way to enact laws. The decision in the case of the homeowners in Connecticut violated the 4th and 5th Amendments.

I agree totally, my friend. It never ceases to amaze me that the people who get downright weepy about protecting the most outrageous interpretation of every last comma and jot found in the First and Fourth Amendments are the same ones who seem to believe the Founding Fathers were simply kidding when they wrote the Second and Tenth.

Far too many people have completely forgotten that federalism is the foundation of this nation.

It's time to return to the constitution. During the whole election season, I always said we needed to get back to the basics and live the constitution. The answer I always got was "the constitution won't work in modern society." It's sad nobody wants to protect the one thing that keeps us free today.

I believe that our Founding Fathers would turn over in their graves if they knew how our Constitution had & is still being abused.

I for one, am truly tired of the slick willie type lawyers & judges looking for loop holes & thinking everything is "Open to interpretation"'

Our Founding Fathers said what they meant & meant what they said, they didn't talk out of both sides of their mouths.

But then that was when integrity actually meant something & the people voices were listened to not dictated to.

Bush already did all he could to dismantle the Constitution. Now we have a Constitutional scholar and educator as president, and we'll go back to being a nation under law. The thing that gets me about conservatives is that they always talk about the role of government being limited to defense, and forget about the language of promoting the common welfare. Our founders saw the role of government as much more than defending the borders and promoting corporate profits.

The Constitution and socialism are not mutually exclusive.

If you're going to talk about how important Constitutional principles are, you might wish to familiarize yourself with what is and what is not in there.
