Some questions for the law enforcement professionals here...?

1. Do you ever get to use the cop computer to look up your peep's to see what kind of stuff they've been involved in?

2. What do you do when you have a slow night on patrol, how do you fight boredom?

3. When you get to use the siren, how do you manage to hear your radio?

4. What sort of public relations stuff does the average police department do? Can the average joe ever get the opportunity to ride in a squad car without having committed a crime?

A friend of mine was on a business trip a couple of decades ago out in the mid west. The motel he stayed at had a thing hanging up reading "ride shotgun with [local sheriff]" or something like that so, he called and got to ride around with the sheriff for a couple of hours. This was near some small town somewhere. It sounded like an awesome experience.

A lot of jobs seem to have many fringe benefits but, the police seem to have the most - squad cars, helicopters, dogs, radios, cop lingo, etc.

    1. No that would be against most department regs. Plus if you found out somethig actively going on, and you tipped them off..your in trouble. Not to say that it doesnt happen from time to time, but it is strongly discouraged my most departments.

    2. The job is what it is...theres alot of boredom. Its a game of "hurry up and wait". You just get used to it. Many times if you go past something and you see 5 cop cars arresting some kid for something stupid. No its not for back up...I just wasnt doing anything at the time and wanted to see what was going on. You know how the average person goes by something exciting and rubbernecks....same thing but we can stop and get actively involved. Most good cops I know are some of the most curious people you'll ever meet.

    3. That is just something you get used to.

    4. Departments have all kinds of community/ public relations things they do. the dare program, ride alongs, courses on how to keep yourself safe, town meetings, ride along programs....some departments do more than others and not all are the same, but they all offer something.

As far as those things being fringe benefits...yeah you may not be in aviation or canine...but there are alot of good things that come along with being a cop. My best memory is when I got a lost kid back to her parents. I was out of the academy about 2 weeks....or the first time I help deliver a baby...those are the memories. Sure taking care of perps is alot of fun though too...I think i've made my points.

1It is unlawful to use the computer in that way. Yes.

2 When the supermarket leaves their buggies out you can position your push bumpers just right and push the carts across the lot at about 45 mph.A shopping cart demolition derby.Water ballons are handy also.

    3 Its not easy

4 check with your local dept. Many of them offer ride along programs.

We take crap from quite a lot honestly everyone we manage when we are in actual truth attempting to assist make a nasty situation extra positive. Its no longer everyone. Its the repeat offenders that you manage over and once extra. those that you arrest and they have the brilliant idea to allow you to recognize that once they get out they are going to locate your living house and rape your daughter. Its the countless hours of report writing in hassle-free words to save stuck up so that you'll perchance hit the line quicker or later on your shift to implement site visitors guidelines. Its the suicides the position a 16 year previous son shoots himself in his bedroom even as his mum and dad flow out to run errands. Its handling the death's that the undesirable previous guy wakes up contained in the morning to locate that his spouse of 50 years didnt make it by ability of the evening. Burnout has alot of factors in the back of it. And definite, sturdy human beings do get into regulation enforcement to make a distinction. And regardless, burnt out or no, a distinction continues to be made. climate it truly is getting a lower than the impact of alcohol motive force off the line only for that one evening, think ofyou've got probable saved the existence of a newly approved youngster ager. All of my acquaintances are police officers. My Corporal has been in it for 30+ years and he hasnt replaced somewhat. I mean definite, issues difficulty us all, there's a opt for few of police officers that cant manage the strain and favor to provide up their responsibilities. They dont precisely motel to criminal pastime once they get achieved, they purely hit upon a common on a daily basis pastime. i wish this spoke back your question.
