Question for cops on gun ownership?

There's a lot of talk about people owning guns these days. For the cops on here, could you tell me what your opinion of legal gun ownership is and whether you work in an urban, suburban or rural area?

Specifically I'm interested in learning if there is a clear difference in opinion based on the type of area you patrol in.

Also, when you have a problem with a perp who is armed with a gun, is it generally a legally owned and registered gun or is it an illegally owned one?

Thank you in advance.

I have no problem with legal gun ownership.

I work in an urban/suburban area. I have had cases where the guns were illegal, as well as legally owned guns carried illegally (possession while intoxicated, no CCW license, etc.)

I live in a suburban area in Florida. Here, guns are a big deal to their owners and concealed weapons licenses are easy to come by if you fill out the right paperwork.

I feel that if you are responsible then you should be able to have as many guns as you like of whatever kind.

Most gun crimes are committed with illegally obtained firearms.

I have no problems with gun ownership by law-abiding, responsible, non-felons.

As for suspects: Most are in possession of stolen guns or guns "loaned" to them by "friends". There is a degree of crimes committed by the owners, but they are much more rare.
