No. It is pretty much the opposite of religion.

It falls in R/S because atheism is about not believing in a God etc, so it is opposite to religion, so it is the other side of the religious argument. That's why it is here.

No, atheism is not a religion. An atheist is simply someone who sees no reason to believe in gods. That's it, nothing more.

Other than that we are all individuals with our own opinions, some atheists consider themselves spiritual in one way or another, some atheists are Buddhists, but many are not. There are no rules, we only all agree about one thing, that there is no reason to believe in gods.

It falls into the category of religion only because it is a disbelief in gods, who obviously do belong in the religion category.

Religion is an integral part of most societies today, and of the history of the world. Religion effects everyone whether religious themselves or not, and as such it is perfectly reasonable to be interested in the subject of religion without being religious. I am not a scientist, but I am still interested in science, and still want to learn more about it, and share what little I do know with others who need answers, does my not being a scientist myself, mean I should avoid all forums or real life discussions that have to do with science? Or conversely, does the simple fact that I am interested in science, make me a scientist? No. of course it doesn't. In the same way, being interested in religion does not make me religious. Not to mention the fact that not believing in gods does not stop someone from being in some way spiritual, although I don't know how they would define 'spirit', :)

It doesn't: if you care to look there isn't a atheism section and for the millionth time it is not a religion simply a point of view that has no dogma attached (which would be necessary to make it a religion). And you can be spiritual without believeing in a god or gods so it is also possible for an atheist to be spiritual.

The definition of a religion is a little blurry, but most definitions include these three points:

    - a notion of the transcendent or numinous, often, but not always, in the form of theism

    - a cultural or behavioural aspect of ritual, liturgy and organized worship, often involving a priesthood, and societal norms of morality (ethos) and virtue (arete)

    - a set of myths or sacred truths held in reverence or believed by adherents

Atheism is not a religion as it fulfills none of these criteria. It is however a opinion about religion.

I'm going to assume you're a Christian. (sorry If I got that wrong) As such should you be excluded from responding to questions concerning Allah or Vishnu or Buddha? If you don't believe in those gods, does that mean you' have no right to express your opinion about those religions?

Should creationists be banned from discussions about evolution?

If you accept that you have a right to express your opinion about a any position that you don't agree with, then you should accept that others have the same rights. Anything less would be hypocrisy.

It depends what your definition of religion is to be honest. In my opinion, atheism can be looked at as a type of religion because it is a strong belief people have (the belief that there isn't a god) and in some cases it can be a way of life.

"would you define Atheism as a religion?"

Of course not; you'd have to be an ignorant nutter to even consider that.

A-theism: it isn't a religion, it IS a religious position.

Being an atheist is NOT a religion and requires nothing but the common sense to realise that invisible sky critters do NOT exist.

An atheist does NOT have, or need to conform to, any type of scripture, dogma, doctrine, laws, songs, chants, special deeds, foods, obligations, restrictions, meditations, physical and mental practices, trinkets, meeting houses, paid leaders and other parasites or confirmations other than the simple one of realising that there are NO invisible critters in the closet, under the bed, up in the sky or any other place ‘they’ deem it fitting for such an entity to reside.

An a-theist does NOT need to remove or cover any body parts.

Philip K. Dick: Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.

I suppose only to the extent that zero is a number.

It is not the case that atheists are necessarily non-spiritual. The entire Buddhist religion (tradition? philosophy?) is atheist in nature.

But once again I must remind you that Religion & Spirituality refers to the topic of the questions, not the people who are permitted to answer. Anyone can ask and answer in any category.

Atheists have a great deal of interest in religion because religion has a great deal of significance in the world. It is influential. And it impacts our lives in some specific ways, most notably by its influence on lawmakers.

something no longer theism. Anti-theism isn't a faith the two. that's till and till there exists a company that's systematically anti-theist and possesses dogmatic standards for a particular anti-theist technique. It does no longer matter on the utilization. thank you to grant those "atheism is a faith" tards gasoline for his or her hearth although. a miles extra suitable question to ask is "why could atheism *choose* to be defined as a faith?" I observed somebody below me advise that there are non-theistic religions. actual, yet atheism isn't a spiritual subset or superset of the Buddhist faith.

of COURSE it is a religion

it is a belief system that doesn't include a supreme being, that's all

My spirituality is what led me AWAY from christianity in the first place...

I refused to believe that God would welcome people lucky enough to be born in the west and accept western religion, but eternally torture those unlucky enough to be born in the east and accept an eastern religion.

THAT IS NOT THE ACTION OF A JUST GOD!

THEN, I realized that the bible contains corruption.

Men wrote it down, and men are corrupt.

So, adjustments and allowances must be made to compensate for the ignorance of the time.

[Joshua didn't make the sun stand still, if the event happened, he made the earth stop turning]

So, Jesus represents forgiveness. and you look at psychology and see that forgiveness works the same there as it does in religion.

Someone who is stuck in denial and can't admit their mistakes and can't become a better person, suddenly, with the introduction of forgiveness, can admit mistakes, learn from them, and evolve into a better being. Same thing happens when you accept Jesus.

THOSE OF YOU, WHO WAITED FOR REAL WORLD PROOF, JUST GOT IT. FORGIVENESS WORKS!

So, now, I'm not an Atheist anymore!

I am somewhere in the neighborhood of Agnostic Freelance Christian

[I despise the hypocrisy of the organized religion of my day just like Jesus].

It is not a religion, although some (by no means all) have prescribed pre requisites.

The spiritual part does not exclude atheists. Atheists do not believe in gods, this does not mean they are not pagans, buddhists or anything else.

What you are really asking is "Why is R&S not only for people who agree with my beliefs"
