I don't want to sound rude, but what you wrote just there is classic. I thought I was reading from a novel or the equivalent. It sounds like the beginning of a great story. Absolutely not. When someone is rude first (like your uncle) I see no point in remaining polite. You can get huffy, or simply diffuse the situation with humor and turn the tables, like you did. I think it was brilliant, and will probably stop the obnoxious behavior.

People like that annoy the hell out of me, too. Luckily, they aren't my family. Through the years, we've tended to learn how crappy people can be to one another and have tried very hard not to be like them.

Not hardly. What year is it and how old are these adults who are bugging you about glasses? Come on we will all be old and blind one day to need glasses so I hope they all get as annoyed as they have been up until then.

Was it rude? Miss manners might think so, was it funny? Definitely. I am of the opinion, if you dish it you should be able to take it. So, if he was all set to push your buttons, he shouldn't expect you to do nothing. Good for you for standing up for yourself.
