Cat's tail broken? Will she regain control of it eventually?
I believe my cat's tail is broken. She can't move it at all, and apparently she doesn't feel when I touch her tail. She´s not in pain in any way. We don't know how that happened though, she's a spayed indoor cat. She ran out of the house when we accidentally left the window open.
The question is: Will she regain control of her tail? Or chances are it should be amputated?
She acts normal. She's eating well and even playing with my other cat. She just can't move her tail. (it's just hanging, lifeless, so to speak)

I know I have to take her to a vet, I just wanna know if anybody here has seen this happen before and if it's a good idea to have the surgery or if we should wait. Thanks

I once had a cat that had this happen. Unfortunately for him, his tail problem was caused by him sleeping up inside the engine compartment of a car when someone started it. It caused wounds around his bottom that severed the nerves he needed to go to the bathroom, and I had to have him put to sleep :'( Because of this, I no longer allow cats outside.
He had the same problem with his tail, He had nerve damage at the base of the tail and could not move it anymore. The vet said even if it was possible to fix his bottom, the tail would have to be amputated, since he could not feel it anymore.
You need to take kitty to the vet to see how extensive the damage to the tail is. Cats tails have bones similar to the vertebrae in the spine, so it may be that not the entire tail has nerve damage, only part of it. If that were the case, they would only remove the part that had no feeling. The vet will be able to tell how much of the tail is damaged, and advice about if it should be amputated or not.
Good luck, I hope this helps =^.^=

The answer to your question will depend on the injury to the tail. If it was caught in something and twisted, sprained etc. It may do well to wait and see. If there is an actual break then I would think an amputation would be more the plan. Is there a cut or obvious injury? Blood or scab? I would always worry about infection. I would start out with an evaluation by the vet, then see where that leads.

If there is nerve damage then there is a possibility the tail will need to be amputated. If it's a clean break it might be able to be surgically repaired to just put in a cast and let heal over time. Only a vet can tell you for sure though. She will probably need xrays and pain medication (even if it doesn't seem painful, if it's broken, it will be painful). Get her to a vet ASAP!! Do NOT wait to take her to the vet!

If the spinal column in the tail was broken, then no, she won't regain use of it.
If her tail is cold to the touch then there's no blood flow there and necrosis of the tissue has started, which can kill the cat from infection if left untreated.
The vet needs to see her asap, not a week from now.

my opinion is that you should go to a vet and tell him or her whats going on w/ your cat but some animals when they are really in pain they will not say anything so you never no just go to the vet and see what he will say ....

That happened to my previous kitty, Elliott (He died on January 17 and I still can't get over it). A pot fell on his tail and it broke. It ended up being bent his whole life. It's not like the cat really NEEDS the tail. It just tells you how she feels. Keep me updated on her for me, please :)
I love cats :D
