My cats are going to the bathroom on soft things?

I don't know why. They are both male about 2 years old. Have been living together for almost a year and are both neutered.

It started a few weeks ago. I accidently left the door to the bathroom closed when I went to work, so they went to the bathroom on other things (I know my fault).

Problem is, now they are still doing it! Even on things that I bought to replace things I figured were too saturated to keep. I don't know what to do! I can't just get rid of all mats and pillows in my house but I'm out of ideas. They are still using their litterboxes, but they are using the soft things to. They don't go on everything, just things close to the ground like pet beds, floor mats, etc.

I've been cleaning or replacing things they've gone on.

Have you had this problem before and how did you fix it?

My roommates' cats used to do this saame exact thing. The only thing I can recommend would be to try to catch them in the act and use a spray bottle of water and spray them...I hate to say it though, but sometimes it is just the environment they are in that causes them to act this way. The cats used to not do this when we lived in a small cozy apartment, then when we moved into a big noisy chaotic house with more people, they would just get scared very easily and start going to the bathroom everywhere. It's very strange, but yes I do recommend the water spray bottle idea.

scold them, tell them ''no!" and punish them when they don't do it. Maybe a few sprits of water from a squirt gun or spray bottle, cats hate water so maybe they will catch on quickly and stop. Put them in the litter box and say ''use the litter box!'' (or something like that). you may not have time to do this a lot, since you work, so keep them in a gated area while your gone and try it when you go home. If you miss them peeing on anything, show it to them and scold them. Just an idea that might help. Try it! Hope it works!

It could be one cat that is urinating on these soft things. Are you sure its both cats? Maybe one of them has an infection or is sick and cannot hold its urine for too long? Cats can hold there urine and waste in for a long time. If you leave a cat in a locked room overnight or all day, they can usually do a pretty good job of holding it in until they can use a litterbox ( i never intentionally do this, but i have accidentally locked my cats in my bedroom all night and theyve never had an accident)

Maybe try to keep them enclosed in a place with a clean litter box for a few days.

Make sure the litter box is clean and they have absolute access to it. They use soft and things that can cover it up as a substitute.

    - yea have to throw out things they sprayed on---

vinegar diluted with water helps- break down ammonia & cigarette smoke..try this.. & maybe need 2 litter boxes to be on safe side- so they have enough litter- etc. if you cant get to it enough to clean out.

--TRY the vinegar thing!!!!! & usually pet store has this spray - to use. If cat is marking things- go get vinegar..cause if they smell it they will still spray- ...sorry all i can think of.

p.s. i found article- online below

When cats have a bladder infection or UTI they tend to pee on soft things because they think it might not hurt as much. Take them to the vet asap!

I have not had that problem. My standard answer is try sprinkling Cat

Attract in the litter box. That may divert them from using anything but

    the litter box.Good Luck.

    What really works is this:

You put a sheet of aluminum foil on your couch, your bed, or whatever you don't want them to get on. For some reason, it keeps them off. It honestly does work.

why not put plastic cover things on pillows and whatnot so it wont seem so tempting. or just buy them some new toys or scratcher to keep them busy and not get bored and snoop around.
