12 hour car ride with a 13 month old?

My hubby and I are taking my son down to NC to visit my family for a week during Thanksgiving. This is a 12 hour car ride(though we will spend the night halfway, so 6 hrs a day) and the last time we brought him he was 3 months old and slept and then we flew in August so it wasnt a problem. Im guessing I am nervous that he will get overly fussy so I want to make sure he is entertained. I am planning on sitting in the back with him and stopping every few hours to snack and let him run. Any other ideas? Also, I will be having surgery while visiting(as my mom works at the hospital so I will be more comfortable) so will probably not be able to move my stomach well(getting gallbladder out) on the way home. Tips for that? Thank you!

You are just gonna have to wing it.

When we have a long drive, we start the drive at his nap time. He will sleep 2-3 hours in the car. After he wakes up, we drive until he's fussy then let him run wild for a while. We also bring a DVD player. It's not necessary but it will help for an hour to half hour.

Just like a mom to be worried about her child's entertainment when she should be worrying about her surgery...lol. Good luck.

If you start early in the morning or late at night he'll sleep in the car. That might be a good thing on your way home.

As for going there sitting in the back might be a good thing, bring some toys or books to read if he's not getting car sick. My little sister is, that's why I'm mentioning it, and for people like her it's best to just not distract them especially not with toys. But since you didn't mention any of that I'm sure you'll have a fun trip!

The DVD participant would be obtainable, convey countless video clips. i might go away formerly than 5 am, on condition that the drivers could possibly handle it, you do no longer desire to have everyone falling asleep on the wheel! yet, as replaced into reported formerly, you would be coping with much less site visitors that way, and optimistically get extra sleep out of her. Then i might harm up the day somewhat. provide up someplace for breakfast, power some extra hours, study thoughts, draw, sing songs... Then fairly provide up someplace, like a park, play for a speedy time, eat lunch, take a while. Then fit in some extra hours. provide your self sufficient time to make an afternoon of it, and make stops each few hours. it fairly is going to be good for the adults too! good luck!

Get up at 4 in the morning and go. He'll fall back asleep in the car. I gave my girls little bug juice bottles to sip on and little snacks. Six hours isn't all that bad at a time. It'll be okay...
