Would you go to see a movie at the cinema even though it could also be seen on DVD, cable, etc? Why?

Yes, for example sometimes lately the cable channel TNT is playing "Titanic". I could watch it from my DVD or from TNT, but there's just something about the huge movie theater screen that makes it better.

Yes. Seeing a movie in the theater is whole different kind of experience. Some movies, esp. horror and action, are much more fun to see on the big screen and in the company of others who are screaming or cheering. Only if the theater is full though.

There are some movies that are even interactive, like some "singalong" versions and of course Rocky Horror.

Also, the theater is a good place to take a date.

Possibly. If there is a good Independent or classic movie showing (generally, you have to be in a decently sized city to find that) going and seeing the movie for 5 bucks or so is cheaper than buying it. Not to mention, most stuff like that, you only really want to watch once, unless it is really good, or really confusing and you need to see it many times just to understand it.

    Otherwise, no, probably not.

I have had mixed results of that. One time, I went to a Alfred Hitchcock film called "Dial 'M' for 'Murder' " and it was just great! I couldn't believe how beautiful Grace Kelly was on the big screen! Another time, though, I went to see a Star Trek movie, and the sound was so bad, that we couldn't sit through it! I enjoyed the home video much more.

because if you see it in the cinema - you get the surround sound feeling. as well, the screen is bigger to see the picture.

It is more of a 'night out' kind of event and, therefore, more fun to many people.

    Ginormous screen.

    Mind blowing sound.

You can fit more people, my couch ain't that big.
