Jehovah's Witnesses: Do you think it's cruel to teach your children that Doomsday is any day now?
Is it not cruel to teach your children that the End is so near that they will never fulfill any dreams of careers in this world? The media in various countries have reported suicides and suicide attempts by the children of JWs all due to their tragic beliefs, especially the threat of doomsday.
Is it any wonder that JWs are often afraid to reveal their true lifestyle and even teach that it is "proper to hide the truth" about it in child custody cases, fearing the courts will not understand their beliefs?
@Karloz II: I don't do that, nor would it give me any pleasure to do so. They ARE people, you know.
Besides, slamming the door in their face only serves to prove in their minds that they must be right since they believe they will suffer for being Christians.
@DebbiePittman:"Churches (most) also believe the saints go to heaven to torture and hurt all those coming back in the resurrection since they supposedly don't get a second chance to learn after death. So they are to be resurrected back to earth where the saints preside over their torture/punishment for 1,000 years then throw them back into a burning hell."
Where did you ever hear such a thing? It's certainly not Biblical or Christian.

yes. the things my mom taught me you cannot imagine.. i look at my daughter who is 4 and very innocent and wonder how my mom was able to teach me such things at that age. my mom seriously destroyed any innocence i had with her religious teachings, her tactics were almost cruel and i never realized it until i had kids of my own. i am still teaching my daughter about Jesus. i have not given her a children's bible stories book that shows pictures of people torturing Jesus, much-less of something like Armageddon.. oh man i would never.. she is too young to be taught that sort of stuff.
i grew up believing Satan is in control of everything, that when kids at school went trick or treating or they had holiday erasers and pencils they had been worshiping Satan.. lol! -does that sound familiar at all? so because of these things they were going to be destroyed (yes, i believed as a JW that children would be destroyed by God). my bible stories book shows a woman on the back of a beast .. a literal picture of what is described in Revelation. that is some scary stuff to be going to bed thinking about. there were also pictures of people dying while the few good get away.. people taking one path instead of the other up a mountain.
all this is so confusing to a child. nobody should teach this insanity to small children. nobody should even teach their kids about hell fire. this is mature conversation, not something to be shared with young children. anyone who discusses this kind of stuff with a kid younger than.. 11 perhaps (and not suddenly but gradually) should seriously think about the psychological harm they are doing to a young mind that CANNOT comprehend what is being discussed.
at best it's child abuse. simple as that. and anyone who doesn't like that or agree with that should have been raised by my over zealous mother.

tell them on vote casting : you do not ought to vote for the lesser of two evils. If a candidate would not help what you be conscious of is nice, then it would be stupid to vote for them. On government, there has in no way been or ever would be a appropriate government that's ran through human beings.there is corruption in all governments yet we ought to do the final we are able to with what we've. Evolution is a "theory" not actuality believed through a few and the government demands it learn, yet do not settle for it blindly for there are professionals and cons to it and literature backing the two factors.it somewhat is what "some" scientists have self belief on the subject of evolution and back, it somewhat is not concrete actuality , yet theory. i'm not Jehovah's witness, yet Christian.it somewhat is on the subject of the final i will do for you, they're going to nevertheless carry their perspectives extra beneficial than probably, yet it somewhat is the least offensive you will in all probability get on the subject of those issues.

When Jehovah told Noah to preach and warn people of the coming flood, was that a negative message or an offer for people to save their lives?
When Jesus told his followers to flee Jerusalem in 66 A.D., and foretold a great tribulation was he being negative, or trying to save lives?
We view our work as a warning message but also a life saving one.
As far as the pictures and descriptions in older books, the teaching methods of Jehovah's Witnesses have changed over the years as society has changed. I remember when I was young, people used to talk about Witnesses sticking their foot in someones door. That doesn't happen any more because society wouldn't respond well to it. The methods of illustrating God's judgment has been softened to adapt to what we feel will reach people's hearts better. That doesn't change the powerful message in God's Word about the end of this system of things. It is going to be a unbelievable event, far greater and more shocking than we can imagine.
I personally don't believe that JW's have a higher incidence of suicide among it's young ones. I am not going to say it never happens, but our understanding of events in the near future is a reason to feel uplifted, not discouraged. It will usher in a time of great peace on the earth. That is something for all JW's, old and young, to rejoice over.

Armageddon is not "Doomsday". IT is rescue for the righteous, blameless ones who are keeping the command of God and his Son. It means war, violence, hatred, sickness, death, etc will be over.
It would be cruel to NOT teach it.
A further "note"....ALL Christian churches believe in this end and almost all of them believe it will happen before long. Most of them know about the UN (Ps chap. 2) and the false peace (1 Thess 5:2, 3). And that children will be destroyed as well as adults (though they say the wicked will be burned eternally in a living hell).
Churches (most) also believe the saints go to heaven to torture and hurt all those coming back in the resurrection since they supposedly don't get a second chance to learn after death. So they are to be resurrected back to earth where the saints preside over their torture/punishment for 1,000 years then throw them back into a burning hell.
The message JW teach is hopeful, kind, happy, etc. The others I've heard and talked to have the most horrifying, cruel beliefs imaginable. That is why I stayed away from religion before I heard of JWs.

No! It is not cruel. What is cruel is to teach your children that this world ruled by Satan can offer any kind of salvation.
You say hide the truth in custody cases, what custody case, concerning Jehovah's Witnesses, have you been involved with?
Doomsday is an incorrect way to speak about the end of this wicked world at Armageddon. Jehovah's Witnesses teach that after Armageddon-, as you say doomsday-a new world will come about where righteousness is to dwell forever.
Can any sane person argue against the fact we live in a world where crime, war, murders, greed, and incompetent government exist?
Mankind needs Jehovah God, and his son Jesus Christ, It would be cruel to keep this fact from our children.

Teach our children Doomsday?
Well lets see what the bible says about "what" to teach our Children.
Deut 6:6,7 6 And these words that I am commanding you today must prove to be on your heart; 7 and you must inculcate them in your son and speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road and when you lie down and when you get up.
sonny daye since the entire bible is God's Word we need to teach them the "Whole" message. Their Blood is in each parents hand!
Also The War of Jehovah can be survived and that is the focal point when teaching our Children. Its coming and the bible is full of warnings, it would be foolish to overlook it when teaching our families and others in the ministry.
Also look at what Jesus Preached
Luke 17:26-29
Moreover, just as it occurred in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of man: 27 they were eating, they were drinking, men were marrying, women were being given in marriage, until that day when Noah entered into the ark, and the flood arrived and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise, just as it occurred in the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building. 29 But on the day that Lot came out of Sod´om it rained fire and sulphur from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 The same way it will be on that day when the Son of man is to be revealed.

I do !
My Son for instance...Raised as a JW with his mother, waiting for the inevitable destruction of anyone who Practices a Religion other than Jehovah's witnesses and the only survivors will be JW and those that did not have a Religion yet....?? !!!...
Yeah, He is serving a Life sentence for murder and the Tapes of the conversations between he and his mother is how his conviction was secured by the prosecution.
His mother, while being recorded at a Prison Visit stated, she didn't know why people were making a big deal about the woman dying,She was just going to be Resurrected anyway after Armageddon !
The Prosecution rested, the Jury was out for a Very short time......Guilty, 1st Degree Murder, recommendation for Life Imprisonment.
EDIT: To Clarify, his life in prison sentence was the alternative to a criminal mental Institution.
His Frank and blunt conversations with his mother about Armageddon and the Non JWs being Destroyed changed his status from being mentally unstable to being callous and unapologetic murderer.
EDIT: Jeshrun....."Replacement Israel".....
I was party to a Custody battle with my Ex ....She and the Elders won...
The custody dispute was for my son, the one in prison for murder !

It's not such a bad thing when you consider the Watchtower has always been wrong. Even a child couldn't take it seriously.
- 1 decade ago
It is to keep them fearful of the watch tower and to bring them up as conditoned robots, wh owont even go to the police when abused but go back to the same society that abused them which favours the rapists
the mind control begins early
a society within a society teaching things you wil lnever get to know unles you part of that scoiety..this is what we call occultic (hidden) practises...in short a cult
