Kitten treats--I just got a 6 wk old kitten and wanted to give her treats, but the only brand I see that has..?

them specially for kittens is "Special Kitty", I believe its the Wal Mart brand. Will giving her adult cat treats hurt her or has anyone used this brand and are they just as good? Thanks.

Update:

Thanks angelone, I just wanted to give her some "treats". I feed her Kitten Chow

Please don't give your kitten treats, especially those that are for adult cats and those that are a store brand. The stomach of a baby kitty is very small, and the nutrient requirements are very strict for cats compared to dogs, and the treats are NOT balanced, they are more fat and carbs than she should have with no vitamins or minerals or good quality protein. If she eats treats, she will eat less of the kitten food that with each bite has the right ratio of protein to carbs and fat and vitamins and minerals, so her diet will not be very nutritious. Store brands are cheap for a reason: if you use lower quality ingredients you charge less for the product. Did you know that hair and nails/claws and feathers are considered protein? Car crankcase oil is considered a fat? These are cheap ingredients that could legally be put in pet food under the current labelling laws. Pet her and play with her, and feed her a great kitten food from the pet store! By the way, vets don't get ANY kickbacks from any pet food companies. We recommend what we have seen our patients grow and live well on.

A simple healthy treat is a bit of high quality canned food. Skip the stuff you can buy at the grocery store and look for something better at the pet store or feed store. Some good options are Felidae, Taste of the Wild, Blue Buffalo, Chicken Soup for the Kitten Lover's Soul, Wellness, Innova, etc. Another healthy treat you can make is dehydrated fish. Buy boneless/skinless fish, you can get salmon in a can or many varieties in the freezer section, "bake" at the lowest setting in your oven till they're nicely dried out and store in the fridge up to 3 weeks.

No your kitten will be perfectly fine with adult cat treats. The only reason why there's different types of food for different ages is the amount of nutrients each stage for a cat needs. As a kitten they need a fair amount of nutrients but as a cat gets older they need a lot more. That is why it is common for elderly cats to lose weight the older they get.

We have a very tiny 4-5 weeks old kitten (an orphaned stray feline). When he first came home, we gave him milk, omelette and other normal human food. It had diarrhea, vomiting and fever on account of indigestion. The Vet suggested Puppy Weaning Pedigree pack. Only after eating this food, it recovered. If your kitty has been weaned from its mother very early, better to try a Puppy Weaning pack. As far as hard food is concerned, better to try after a week or so. You see, it has to get accustomed to its new surroundings also. Also get your vet to have a look at her before trying anything.

I never used that brand for my cat. A really good brand is Whiskas-Temptations. They have kitten treats and adult treats. I currently use that for mine. You shake the bag and your cat comes running.

Find an alternative stress-reliever. When you’ve had a negative day, don’t reach for the doughnuts – look for a new coping mechanism that works available for you, not against you. Listening on your favourite album, looking at loved ones pics on Facebook, or just getting away from home for a walk will enable you to focus on the positives.

Well it could have certain ingreedients (The adult food) that will upset the kittens stomachs because it may contain things that only adult cats can handle. I suggest making your own kitten treat so you can

    1. KNOW what's going in it

    2. Make sure your cats like them

    :3

    Hope your kittens are well!

Swap a bowl of pasta for just a bowl of vegetables. You can conserve to 200 calories by slicing the starch and adding produce.

I have used it before, it is a good one!

Just dont use Whiskas, it´s a really bad cat food that has waaay too much fake meat in it.

Cat treats are made to satisfy your cat, but not to be good for them nutritionally. Its the same reason human treats (candy) are not good for us. Stick to the meow mix. Or if you really want to shorten your kitty's life, give him a nice gasoline bath =)
