according to the link below, she has a shot at his SS since she is not remarried after age 60. What other income sources/financial obligations does she have? How is her health? If she owns a home, she can look into a reverse mortgage.

Also, what is his situation? Did he remarry? are they still on good terms? She may be in his will, or there may still be a chance at getting her in it.

She may also be eligible for all or part of his pension or 401k if he has one, depending on if it was paid out at the divorce and the state you live in.

Basically, she has a lot of options to replace the income, but it's a question of what they set up both while married and the 24 years since than.

If she does not have enough income, you should take care of her financially and have her live with you.

Check with a Social Security office. She may qualify to collect from his since they were married for so long.

Once he dies, the alimony ceases to be paid to her. Let her put in a petition to the Social Security Cell, for their favorable consideration.

She might possibly be able to collect his Social Security and if they were never divorced then she should really be able to get it as she is still technically his wife.

all good things come to an end... she should have been living with-in her means and not in her separated husbands pocket... it seems just because she's pretending they did 26 years.. they have been separated longer than married.. stand up and stop being a coward and help your grandmother

If they are still legally married then she has lots of options. She is probably entitled to SS and any other assets has.

Now I understand why my parents always told me to never let myself become dependent on someone elses income.
