How much would someone be able to use a broken arm?
I know it's an odd question. It's for a story I'm writing. The one character breaks his arm (specifically, his wrist), and I was wondering if he would still be capable of using it if he could handle the pain. If so, what sorts of things would he, and would he not, be able to do? What differences would their be if the arm was broken in a different spot?
I probably should mention that, given the nature of the story, the character will eventually have a splint inexpertly put on.
I'm really looking for what capabilities he would still have, even though someone in a normal situation wouldn't use that arm.

A fractured wrist would be placed in a cast or splint restricting range of motion and the patient told to avoid using that arm/hand, so even if he or she could manage to use it, they probably shouldn't.

A broken wrist would make doing almost anything with that hand or lower arm out of the question unless the person had an extremely high pain tolerance and even then, picking something up or moving something with any weight would be difficult to impossible, although the elbow may be used to perhaps move something.
