do cats get fully awake at night and look for food?

my cats are half independent, when nobody feeds their hunger, they'll look for own -including into the trashbins. if they get to sneak into the house at night when everybody's asleep, the next morning the bins are messed up. do they really stay that awake at such hour and hunt for food as how people do in daytime?

the cats do get fed every morning, afternoon and evening-night, no supper.

Yes, cats are generally nocturnal, so who knows what they do while we're asleep?

Still, you may want to take a few measures to keep them out of the trash bins, sinced there could be things in there that would be harmful to them. If you're talking outdoor trash bins, your neighbors may not appreciate the garbage being spread all over, if the cats do that. Get bins with tight-fitting lids, and if the lids are level and flat enough you can put bricks on top.

    Good luck!

Yeah, cats are nocturnal. They adjust to our schedule to some degree but they usually remain fairly active at night. Probably a good idea to handle the garbage situation. I use cans that have the step pedal and so far my cat hasn't figured those out, thankfully.

Yes, when a cat i hungry- day or night, they will find something to eat. I free feed dry food to prevent this problem. However, if there is something good in the trash, they will dig it out.
