I am scheduled for knee surgery and I haven't had any routine tests done.?

I am concerned that the doctor hasn't done any pre testing. I am 53 years old and have told the doctor that I haven't been feeling well. The doctor said that the surgery will still take place on Tuesday. He hasn't even taken my blood pressure or a sample of my blood. Should I be worried?

Worried, no; concerned, yes. Make two phone calls tomorrow: to the GP who referred you, and to whoever handles your health insurance. Ask if the insurance requires pre-surgery screening. They SHOULD -- it's more expense for the insurance company if a higher-risk surgery patient gets complications for something the doctor should have known about.

It's possible your GP thinks your health is good enough that you don't need a lot of tests, but if you're getting anything but local anaesthesia I would think they'd at least want a blood workup.

i would be worried i am 18 and have had three surgeries. two on knees one on ankle. every time i have had surgery i have had a physical and blood test. they take my blood pressure pulse and temperature every time i went in. also before my ankle surgery i felt sick and they re scheduled it. and each time i had a different doctor and they all did the same check up.

I would be concerned that a proper Preoperative exam was not conducted to check your general health and to see what medications you are on.
