What research is there on the best way to share custody in terms of children's development?

All the googling I've done pretty much turns up legal issues or whatever "research" I find focuses on placating the angry non-custodial parent.

I just want to know if there's research on whether children do better in "every other day &every other weekend" or "1 week at a time" custody or whatever, assuming that parents' problems are not not an issue.

thanks for your help

Update:

I know of 2 couples who have split amicably and on their own decided to do the "mon & wed and every other weeknd" for 1 parent and the rest to the other parent. Both couples did this independently and both couples treat each other with respect and don't badmouth each other.

But I think this is convenient for the parents, not necessarily what's best for the kids.

I know most couples aren't like this, but enough of a sample should be able to even out the problems.

Sharing custody to address the development of the child has no exact or standard formula. It depends on how each parent will decide on what pattern or how frequent the custody should be done--as long as you are making the best as a parent to your child to make him or her feel loved. Making your child feel being loved is the most important goal in child custody, aside from the financial aspects. As an experienced parenting counseling, I observe that the frequency really does matter. If you can make it, everyday or every other day (as frequent as possible, depending on your available time), the so be it.

it will be hard to find such research because you have a faulty premise. the parents "problems" are always going to be an issue. You take a parent who has seen their child every day for their entire life and tell them now you can only see them 4 days a month, or 14 days a month...there ARE problems with every arrangement. You also have to take into account if both parents are in the same school district, are either parent living with someone else, the age of the child...etc.

Typically every other day is not good for a child, every other week works sometimes when the kid is young or the parents can be almost friendly, but typically one parent gets primary custody because they are deemed the best place for the child. It is rare that 2 parents can make 50/50 work up until the age of 18.
