Could my finger be broken or just jammed?
About 6 months ago I fell. I have Cerebral Palsy on my left side so when I broke my fall, I hurt my pinky. Hurting my pinky on that hand happens alot because my muscles tense often when I fall. Ive probably "jammed" the same finger 100 times in my life. It bruises and swells up but then always goes back to normal within three weeks. I thought the same thing happen during my most recent fall, so I didnt think anything of it. I never went to the doctor about it. Well, its been 6 months and my finger is still swollen and is stuck in a hyperextended position at the middle knuckle. I cant bend it at all at that knuckle. It STILL hurts like hell and will often shoot pain up the side of my hand. I have never broken a bone in my life so I dont know what Id be looking for. If it is indeed broken, what are the chances of the doc resetting it after 6 months? I often wonder if it is just jammed because there is still pain at the site of the knuckle. I just dont know...so, any input will be appreciated! Thanks. PS...I have limited use in the hand, but all my fingers worked until that day. I MISS be able to bend my finger...crippled or not :(
Thanks Mark...thats just it, if its just jammed then I'll yank the finger and put it back. I just dont want to try to bend it back if it broke then healed wrong. I think at this point the doc will look at me like Im stupid if I go in 6 MONTHS after the fact...lol

really, depending on your age it could be so many diferent things that's keeping your finger open. to many to list on here at least. Your best bet is to go to a doctor, or a hospital if you have time... where they can rule things out.
It take a full break three weeks to heal, so if it is broken and you have waited 6 months, to re set the doctor is going to have to hit it with a hammer, quite literally, I have had this done to my shoulder.
If your lucky its going to be something called trigger finger, which is just a needle in the joint thats causing problems to fix it.... let me explain something to you, if your sitting at the doctors and the choices are to break a bone to re set it or get these injections in your hand, suck it up and break the bone, the needle in the hand is probably the most painful thing you will ever go through.

Hi there, I'm certain it is painful correct now, however are you able to transfer it in any respect? If sure it isn't broke, in the event you can not probabilities are it should good be. I advocate you're taking a wash dress and CRUSHED ice-cubes, beaten for the reason that it'll quilt whole finger, no longer in which simply the ice-cubes might. Do this in not more than 20 minute durations at a time and with a plastic baggie to restrict a multitude. You would possibly uncover your finger exchanging colors, that is traditional because it was once a sever bend. And why you did not inform Coach was once very incorrect! You would have had Med-Coverage, it possibly your writing hand & effecting your college paintings! We'll simply must pray it isn't broke possibly a sprain? All the Best of Luck, diana d If you informed r Coach, they would be accountable for you rationale it was once on college estate it occurred, do u appreciate me?

Well... It would be in your best interest to go to the Doctor because only X-rays can tell if it is broken. From what you have wrote it sounds pretty bad. Although I don't think it sounds like you broke it.

tape your pinky to your ring finger by using atheletic tape or wrap by wrapping it above the knuckle and below it until it heals and try not to bend it
Source(s): that's what the doctor told me to do when i broke my middle finger and he told my sister the same think when she hurt hers also because there's not much they can do to your fingers
