is my 7 month old behind?
My 7 month and 1 week old boy still can't sit up. He can roll over and he tries to crawl (hasn't quite got there yet lol). but he still cant sit up, not even close! my friends babies who are younger then him can sit up on their own completely my boy doesn't even try! Do you think there is a problem? How old were your babies when they sat up? thanks xx

Nope, don't be concerned yet! All babies advance at different rates and in a different order. My son was pulling to stand at 5 1/2 months and walking at 7 1/2 months, but that doesn't mean that all babies are going to do that! Just like my friend's son saying his first word at 10 months and my son is almost 10 months and hasn't said a real word and still just does baby babble with "mamama" and "dadada" and "bababa." Babies sit up at all different times too! And some babies never learn to crawl (some prefer to roll everywhere, and some skip crawling and go straight to walking!). If you're worried then speak with your pediatrician, but I would say you have no reason to worry yet! He's rolling over and trying to crawl--he's probably plenty preoccupied with trying to figure out to get himself from point A to point B without help to bother trying to sit up!

Hi I wouldn't worry to much every baby is different, Our little girl sat up on her own from about 6 and a half too 7 months but she is now 8 and a half months and not crawling and when we lay her on her tummy she uses her arms to push up but then after about 3 mins she is just laying flat on the floor but I know babies that are 6 months and already crawling and walking so it just shows how all babies are different BUT i know it doesn't stop you worrying. Try sitting him up with cushions behind him or sit him in between your legs so he is supported.

my daughter sat up at 7 months but didnt crawl until 10 months and didnt walk until 13 months. all babies develop at different rates so try not to worry. if he is trying to crawl already and roll over then he is doing okay. maybe try and encourage him to sit up more, prop him up and play games with him and slowly take the support away. x

I wouldn't be concerned just yet. My first son sat up at 4 months but didn't crawl until 8 months.
My second son started crawling at 6 months and only sat up properly at 7 months.

My daughter (who is now a healthy 22mo old and hitting all developmental milestones on time) was a slow beginner. I'm thinking she just needed to build some muscle.
Holding her head up- 5 months
Sitting up and rolling over- 9 months
Crawling- 10 months
Pulling to stand- 13 months
Walking- 14 months
The activities I've listed she wouldn't even attempt until 2-3 weeks prior to accomplishing it.

My daughter was 7 months when she started sitting up and crawling. I think she was actually crawling before she mastered sitting up. I definitely wouldn't be concerned yet. Maybe in a few months if he isn't doing it, then ask your pediatrician.

Every baby is different. If you help to teach him sit up that may help him learn. I use to give my girls lots f tummy time and sit them against pillows and when they were around 4 or 5 month I would sit them in the play pen with their back against the side and i would stand there and just watch her try to sit on her own. They would slide on their side and roll around but as long as you watch to make sure they don't suffocate on the siding or stuffed animals it is safe. It is good to let your baby explore their movements on their own. If you hold them constantly or dont let them play they tend to learn a bit slower. If you are really concerned I would take him to see your family dr just to give him a check =]

My son was siting unsupported at 5 months, but at 4 months, I was putting him in the boppy with another pillow behind him to sit him up. He would get mad if he was laying down and couldn't see what was going on.
However, just within the last week he is figuring out to crawl, and since he has learned to stand up, has given up on trying to improve his crawling. My cousin-in-laws daughter, who is a week older, can't sit up by herself either, and is just getting her head under control. All babies develop differently. But, since he is trying to crawl, I wouldn't really worry about it. You could always sit him up with pillows, to try and show him how to do it, he might just figure it out on his own, but I wouldn't be to concerned about it.
