Can I boil chicken for chicken noodle soup?

I have some frozen chicken thighs that I want in my noodle soup (just a pre mixed package of chicken noodle soup). Should I fry the chicken, remove from bone, and add to cooked soup? Can I just boil the thighs for awhile then add the soup mix?

I have never cooked chicken in my life.

What is the best way to go about this?

When I make chicken noodle soup from scratch I remove the skin (if there is any) and season the meat with salt and then sear it in a pan with a little olive oil for 2-3 minutes per side on high heat. Then I fill the pot or pan up with water to cover the chicken and bring it to boiling, cover it and simmer for 20 minutes. Then I remove it from heat, take the chicken out and chop or shred it after it has cooled. It is now ready to be added to the soup. You can even use the water you boiled it in as a stock, a base for your soup.

The searing in oil part isn't even necessary. I just think it adds a good flavor!

You can boil the chicken separately in water (skin removed) and then shred the chicken for soup. That's the easiest I've found. OR, if you have the time and a crock pot, throw the chicken in the crockpot and fill with water. Let that bad boy go on it's own for 6-8 hours, maybe 10 and then you have your own stock for homemade chicken soup next time!

You can boil it in a pan of water on the stove (slow simmering is good to get all the flavor from the bones) or else put it in a slow-cooker with plenty of water and let it cook for hours until you put the noodle soup in it to finish.

It is possible, but water might take away all the chicken taste. Try boiling in chicken stock or broth and use an herb bundle and season the stock or broth to keep the chicken seasoned and tasty.
