Being picky doesn't have to be a bad thing. It just means that you know what you like. Over time you will learn to enjoy different kinds of foods. Myself, I hated mushrooms and any kind of squash, now I can never get enough of them!
If you want to improve your diet, cutting down on anything fried or "junky" to about once or twice a week would be my recommendation. When it comes to salads, I would start with the basic: lettuce, carrots, red cabbage, etc. You can always buy one of the pre-made salad packages at the grocery store, and customize them with grilled chicken, etc. etc.
