how to explain bad grades to colleges?

I know I need to but I don't know how. All my life I've been ambitious and a high achiever: freshman and sophomore separate gpas were 3.9 and 3.9 and freshman year I cried because I was 2 points off from being allowed into one honor class (in addition to my courseload where the rest was honor). But then junior year hit and i took my first two ap classes and I couldn't keep up with the reading so i basically quit doing homework and emotionally broke down and got Cs in all of my classes. No significant family event happened. It was more mental. I don't know if I was depressed, it just felt like I was failing life and not keeping up with my highly competitive classmates (my school is the top in my state and there are kids who take an ap test everyday of the ap testing weeks). I really wished i could get the homework done and excell but i couldn't bring myself to do it. idk what do you guys think i should say to colleges?

perhaps you don't persevere, then you will be stuck with a bad grade! You have to have determination to do well next time!

Sometimes, it doesn't matter how much you study or work...you will still get an F!

    here's some tips for you...

    * Remember, a grade does not determine what kind of a person you are, so don't feel as if you are a terrible person.

    * Work hard next time, so that you will never have to come back to this page again!

    * Stay after school if you need. Many teachers are happy to help.

    * Consider getting tutoring.

    * Never focus on what you did not do, focus on making sure you understand why you got the question wrong. This is especially helpful for the final.

    * If you were not specific enough in your studying, tell yourself this will never happen again; you will get 100% on the next test because you are more experienced and you know what to expect.

    * Don't focus too much on the fact that you did get a bad grade, since you can't change the past.

    * You can even ask your fellow classmates to help you if you really need it!

    * Don't compare yourself to others; they're not you and you're not them, you will always get different marks to each other. It's part of life!

    * See if your teacher gives extra credit, and then do whatever you need to the make up the grade.

    hope it helps....

You should apply to a state school.

If you are determined to go to a more competitive school, you can do well at the state school and then transfer. State schools are usually relatively cheap, so you'll save money in the process.

Telling us why you got bad grades is fine, but what we really want is something that shows you can get better grades. After a string of C's, we can't just take your word for it. Prove it at your local state school.

I mean this with the most sincerity.....quit your b itching (put a space so it wouldn't get censored ;P)

If you're in the high 3.0s, then as long as you're not trying to get into an ivy league college, you'll probably get in.

You CAN NOT explain to them your bad grades, they don't care. Just keep the grades up, do some extra curriculars if possible, & you'll be fine. Also, score high on your entries & apply on time/early.

Check out the applications. Often times there will be a space that says, "If you have a reason for your bad grades, write an essay to explain your reasons.". Then you can attach a piece of paper or enter it in a box for online applications with your explanation.
