Can corned beef be used instead of brisket if it is rinsed and then put in the crock pot?

The grocery store was out of brisket -the butcher told me corn beef was the same cut as brisket, all I had to do was rinse it then add what ever stuff (chili sauce and onion soup mix) to my crock pot to make a sweet and sour brisket. Wouldn't it still have a corned beef flavor?

Is the brisket preseasoned? Or is the seasoning packet on the side? If it is totally preseasoned with the pickling spice than the brisket may taste like corned beef unless you rinse it off,
