Divorced dec 2011 - how should I file tax?

In the past, my wife and I filed "married filing jointly". However, we have officially become divorced on December 5th...how should I file? Single? Head of household? Married filing separately?

You file as single unless you qualify for head of household. For head of household you'd have to have an immediate family member as a dependent - unless that person was one of your parents, they'd have to live with you over half the year.

You are NO LONGER legally married and CANNOT file MFJ or MFS.

You file Single as that is your marital status on 12/31. . . . .or if you have dependents living with you & meet requirements, you may file HOH
