How do you get rid of fear of the dark?

I'm 14 and my brother's 13. He's still afraid of darkness, because he believes crazy serial killers and monsters lurk in the dark. He keeps coming into my room at 2:30AM and asks me to sleep in his room on the floor in case a monster comes. How do I get rid of his fear?

Don't torment him it doesn't make it any better. I personally never got over my fear of the dark and I'm 21 but at 11 I started experiencing Sleep Paralysis and Hallucinations. My dad would always tell me it was demons after me, and my sisters would make fun of me. It used to only happen in my room, alone, and in the dark then progressed into happening during the day or at other people house, while cuddling with my boyfriend, etc. They never truly understood until one of my siblings experienced Sleep Paralysis (without the hallucination) and actually apologized for all those years of not believing me. Not something you wish upon others, but something they only understand with experience. I'm also Bipolar 2, PTSD, and have major depression disorder so hearing of my hallucinations worries my psychiatrist because schizophrenia runs in my family. Even now I get hallucinations that I truly can't tell if it was real or not, but they seem to vary with my medications.

All in all, talk to him. See if it's really just monsters or something else.

I went through the same thing. I was afraid of the dark because I had a strong fear that Satan and his demons would come and get me. I always hated horror movies, but some of the scary movies I did see like Halloween didn't help. I slept with my light on and with my TV or radio playing in the background.

I didn't get over my fear of the dark until I started studying the Bible as a teenager. What I learned is that Satan and his demons are definitely real and they are wreaking havoc on the earth. (Revelation 12:9) Some people unknowingly invite them into their home when they own things that the demons approve of, such as spiritistic movies and items related to the occult, porn, anything related to false religions, and immoral or violent entertainment. (compare Deuteronomy 18:10-12; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11) When a person owns such things, it is like telling Satan that we are alright with the things he approves of, which attracts him to them. Such people under the control of the demons may not even realize it, but they can end up doing very bad things. This would explain why spiritism, the occult, immorality, and violence are very popular, yet, so are the bizarre crimes we keep hearing about being committed. The two are connected. The normal robbery, fist fight, and murder are things of the past. Nowadays, people commonly commit crimes that are extreme in nature.

I didn't want anything to do with Satan or his demons, so for me, I had to get rid of my spiritistic and violent video games. I also stopped watching TV shows related to the occult like Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Charmed, things that I previously thought were okay to watch because they seemed innocent, but Satan knows how to package things that he approves of and makes it look like it's okay. Besides, the Bible warns that he knows how to transform himself into an angel of light. (2 Corinthians 11:13, 14). I also got rid of violent and immoral music that I owned. To me, it was worth having God's favor. Nowadays I see that movies about magicians and vampires are very popular. People need to beware because these are other things that Satan approves of, so when they watch it they are telling him that they are okay with what he approves of.

I think that the biggest thing I learned from the Bible is that those who serve the true God come under his protection from the demons. (Proverbs 18:10) Those who do things that God approves of attracts his holy spirit, and the demons are opposed to it and cannot enter into it. So I continued learning about the Bible and made chnages in my life to show God that I wanted his approval and his holy spirit. Of course, I didn't just do this to get protection from the demons, but even more than that I wanted to improve my relationship with my Creator. (Revelation 4:11) Then I got baptized 7 years ago.

Anyway, I did get over my fear of the dark beacuse I realized that God is much stronger than Satan and his demons (MUCH STRONGER), so there was no reason for me to fear them. I don't rememver exactly when I could sleep with the light off, but it happened about a year or two before I got baptized in my late teens.

Okay, when he is sleeping, dress up as a serial killer and scare the crap out of him.
