Were early “Christian” scientists really Christians?

Question

Back in the middle ages and right up to the 17th century people had no real choice but to declare themselves “believers” if they wished to avoid persecution by the all powerful church of the day.
So one really never knows whether they really were believers or like many “Muslims” living under an Islamic regime today.

So when Christians say today that the first advances were made by “Christian” scientists they are really just twisting the truth ….again.

Galileo was, and so was Newton.  Only Newton didn't believe in trinity, so he wasn't a 'true Christian'.

We have their personal writings, and Newton wrote his in code so only he was intended to read them.  I'm pretty sure Newton was honest about his belief.  In any case, Christian scientists got us started but how many living Nobel prize winners are good Christians?

Well, the only "scientists" that were correct and matter in history today are the ones the church put to death or house arrest. What if religion could do that today? I'd be dead for sure.

I really doubt Mendel became a friar against his will. Even with Galileo it was complicated....the fact is Galileo played church politics and lost.

I don't know about all that.  Why denigrate the achievements of Christian scientists, just because they were Christian?

Nobody said they were Fundamentalists..
