I don't like collars on cats but I had to get a cat license should I keep collar on al the time or ....?
just when I take them out of the house (vet or nail trim). Even tho I would definitely get a safety collar Im still afraid of cat getting paw stuck trying to take the thing off. Right now I put tags away because the cats stay indoors but I do take them to vet for shots and check ups and to Petco for nail trims so I would want to use the collar then in case they get away some how. I would prefer just to use it at these times but I figure if I just keep it on they will get used to it.
I do own a couple break-away collars. I used to let one cat out for an hour or less a day ( was usually out there with her) I would put a collar on her so if she did happen to go into another yard people would know she belonged to someone. I don't let either cat out anymore and even tho they are both fixed the boy has run out a few times in the past. I have to be careful opening doors with him and lock him in hallway if i have to get mail, package or let someone in the house.
I also have two carriers one cat uses a "kennel cab" other one uses a soft sided carrier with a zip front as well as zip, Im always afraid he will be determined enough to open the top (in car i place something over top just in case)
The Kennel cab is more secure unless they take the top off and do not get it back on correctly. Two times is has opened before I got home, once I almost dropped it cause all the snaps were not secure, another time the door wasnt correctly on and cat was in front seat wh

There’s no need to keep it on them 24/7. It’s really a personal choice. If you do want to, that’s perfectly fine too. With positive reinforcement, comforting words, and petting they will get used to it eventually. I have heard of owners having their cats used to their collars after about a week.
Snap-away collars are safe and if they do try to use their paw to get it off then it will pop right off, no strangling or binding danger involved. I personally have my cats wear their harness when we are about to leave the house for walks or trips to the veterinarian as there is a clip section for tags right on the harness.
If you do choose to get a snap-away collar for your cats for their tags when these outdoor errands come about get one without a bell. Ones without a bell seem to bother cats less when they’re unfamiliar with having something around their neck.

It is totally up to you. Since they are indoor cats they really do not need to have the collar on. When it comes time to take them to the vets or nail trim, you can put them in a carrier or leave the collar off, but out, so they are aware of the collar and can get use to it that way. Also, any time you introduce your kitties to anything new, put it on the ground with treats or catnip then gradually over several days, do what the item(s) is intended for. Good luck!

No - if the cat is indoor there really is no reason to put a collar on the cat. Some people say yes because the cat may escape. I've owned cats for more then 25 yrs and NONE of them ever escaped out of the house and NONE of them wear collars.

If you really don't like them, then just take it off BUT make sure they they never go outside without one. I know a lot of people who do this, i dont even remember that last time ive seen a cat with a collar to be honest.

If they're completely inside cats there's no need for them to wear the collars all the time, just when they go out so you have proof of license.

Best to get breakaway collars for your kitties and just let them get used to wearing them. Yes, it will drive them nuts at first. Eventually, they'll calm down and get used to the collars, and you don't run any risk of getting fined for not having your cats tagged.
