Knee pain, right knee?

So a few years ago I had a prepatellar bursectomy on my right knee. It was kind of painful this year so I went through physio for like 5 months. it's been feeling great ever since, pretty much no pain. the other day I was just kind of moving my legs around while I was waiting for something. I moved my right shin outward (as in to my right side, abduction) a bit with my knee bent, and I got a bit of pain. Now, it's been kind of achy/painful and it's hard for me to turn my leg outward. Any ideas what might be wrong?

If the pain and popping you are getting is in more in the front of your knee, it may simply be a wearing down of the articular cartilage on the undersurface of your kneecap. If it is more on the inner or outer knee, it could be meniscus or arthritis. Getting an x-ray and evaluation from a physician may be necessary. In the meantime, look up patella maltracking on webmd and you can learn some exercises that may help.
