Would you still use this turkey?

My sister bought a turkey 3 months ago and the expiration date is 12/31/2012. She wants to know if it would still be good to cook for Thanksgiving Dinner or not. I told her I would not use it because it has already been frozen for about a year. What do you think?

Update:

@ royS...there is no reason to be rude. Of course I know what freezing is for....but not all foods stay good even when frozen!

Update 2:

@ Common Sense...the meat guy at her store told her that they most likely had been frozen for 3 to four months. That would mean it would be at least 9 or 10 months old. by the time she cooks it.

Update 3:

@royS...That make 2 of us. I know a lot about freezing foods. I grew up in a time where you owned a deep freezer and you bought meat off the farmer next door. In today's world things are a lot different where food safety is concerned. I have had many things I have bought frozen that turned out to be bad later on when I started cooking it.

It would be fine and safe to eat as it will be good for several years as long as it has been and is frozen.

Turkey is good for 12 months to remain in optimum condition so they say, and then it could lessen in quality. I thing that is complete BS, particularly as they are factory shrunk wrapped in plastic so there should be no freezer burn that you may expect and others to say.

If it has been kept continually frozen, in its wrapping, it should be fine.

A lot of water is added to most frozen turkeys, which helps freezer life.

The big thing to watch for...If it has been kept in a frost free freezer there may be some areas of freezer burn. This is almost guaranteed if it was resting on a rack with cooling coils built in.

The best birds are fresh, unfrozen. But most of the turkeys sold in the US are frozen. The expiration date is well past Thanksgiving.

If anything, cook it between now and Thanksgiving, then get a fresher bird (frozen or not) for the holiday.

It's fine. What do you think is the purpose of freezing food? The BEST BY (NOT 'expiration') date isn't until the end of this year. Even if you don't use it by then, it will still be good, if it's kept frozen, for several more months.

EDIT: I wasn't being 'rude', just pointing out something that you don't seem to understand. I'm old and crotchety, and I have very little tolerance for a lack of common sense. So sorry if I offended your tender sensibilities.

    It expires in TWO MONTHS.

    Why would it be bad?

It was frozen LAST OCTOBER? And sitting in a store for 9 months before she bought it?

    Your math is off somewhere.
