Should I be really worried, cat with urinary problem?

He came from spending the weekend at the vet. I took him in Saturday cause he was trying to pee and couldn't. He was full and ended up having crystals so he had been on a catheter all weekend, it was taken off this morning. They kept him for observation til mid afternoon, his bladder was pretty empty when I got him. Awhile after getting him home he peed a little bit. After that he went o box several times and nothing. I saw hm go again but now he still trying to go and nothing, maybe a tiny bit. Does having the catheter for two days make it harder for them to go on their own or could he be getting plugged up again. He has his special diet food and his meds so Im wondering if it just takes awhile for it too kick in? Im gonna call in the morning and see, was just wondering if maybe I need to find an ER vet tonight

Update:

He has gone a little a few times since last night. Some were maybe jawbreaker size and two were about smaller golf ball size. Hes licking himself down there A LOT

He does have plenty of water to drink. I have a fountain which he is always drinking from plus another bowl

I got the "Prescriptions" food (dry) vet recommend. He did eat his serving last night, this morning he wasnt too crazy about it but I gave him some wet food too (Purina ProPlan for Urinary Tract Health) I crushed his pill and put it in there. He has an appetite and wants to eat

I will look into the PU surgery just in case.

Vet opens in a couple hours and I will call and explain whats going on.

Thanks for the reponses

Update 2:

Thank you everyone for your responses. Vet actually called me before I could call them. He said it was normal for them to be having an urge but at as long he is producing SOMETHING, its a good sign. So I will continue with his meds and his new food. Keep an eye on him and take him back next week for follow up unless theres a problem. He also asked bout his activity and said if he was active it was good (i know cats have a way of masking their pain tho)

Thank you everyone for the responses

Urinary blockages are extremely dangerous and a cat can die within 48 hours if it is not treated immediately. Being as your cat just got home from the vet today and they thought he was well enough to be released, I wouldn't be too concerned. My cat always took a day or 2 to recover fully from this operation. Try getting liquids in him! If he enjoys drinking from a faucet, call him over and try to get him to drink as much as you can or maybe you can put cold water in a large bowl and it might make him want to drink a bit more. I've found that the larger the bowl, the more my cats drink. He might just not have enough liquids in him to get anything out. If he seems as though he is in pain (moaning or falling over), get him to the ER as soon as possible. If you are very concerned (you know your cat better than anyone), call the ER and explain to them what is happening and see what they suggest, but I wouldn't worry too much right now.

My male cat, Salem, suffered from urinary blockages every few months. We had to bring him to the ER to have him unblocked 4 times. The 4th time, he almost died. He had a heart arrhythmia on the operating table, his potassium, body temperature and so many other things were screwed up. His kidneys also started to shut down and he couldn't move. That night, we chose to go ahead and have PU surgery done. It was either that or have him euthanized and I couldn't bear doing that because he was only about 4 years old at that time. It was very expensive, but he has never had another blockage again. He is 10 years old now.

If these blockages continue, I highly suggest you look into saving up for the PU surgery. It may seem like a lot of money at first, but it will save you tons of money in the long run. Most of the time when a cat (usually males) get one blockage, they will get another. The Perineal Urethrostomy (PU) surgery was a little over $1,000, not including the hospitalization and medications, but very well worth it.

My cat had the same problem recently and ended up in the vet for almost a week because after they took the first catheter out he got blocked again, they told me it was common for it to happen more than once. You can probably just make an appointment for the morning when his regular vet opens since it's already close to that now. Definitely get him seen again today though! And yes the food might take a bit to help especially since they tend to not eat so much when at the vet and in pain.

Call and ask the vet about his symptoms, and also discuss some pain meds for a day or two. His urethra is very irritated, and it probably is all inflamed and hurts when he pees, so that makes them go in and out of the box, too. A call to the vet's office will really help determine if this is to be expected, or if they want you to bring him back again. Vets truly do not mind when clients call with concerns like yours.

Ask your vet approximately a prescription meals for cats and puppies referred to as SD. It's made through hills, they equal enterprise that makes technological know-how nutrition meals for cats and puppies. It is a meals that has constituents that stops micro organism construct up and likewise has stuff to support disolve crystals. It's would possibly not totally do away with the difficulty instantly on the grounds that it sort of feels your cat has an attractive dangerous contamination proper now so it's going to have to keep on it is medication. However as soon as that is cleared up the meals will support to restrict infections and crystal from constructing again up. It may even support him to recover from the present contamination he has. It may also be rather high priced however definatly valued at it.

Get him back to the vet as quick as you can. If he's on dry food, get him OFF the dry and onto high quality canned foods. Many males have UTI problems on an all dry diet. We lost our 3 yr old Ocicat to UTI problems and liver/kidney damage due to too much dry foods!

When we brought him home after the 2nd one, he ended up with seizures 3 days after coming home - we could not have saved him even if we got him right back.

You should be able to wait till tomorrow with little danger or discomfort for him . The medicine will take a little time to start working.
