    "I love you" - Pretty sentimental

    "I need you"- Very sentimental , long term realtionship

    I`d rather be told that someone loves me than needs me. Need could mean that they are with me to fill a gap in their life. That makes me want to scarper. I would prefer to enhance someone`s life, not become it.

    If the "I love you" is a heartfelt, legitimate indication of absolute love for you, I tend to think "I need you" is included.

    need - it implies you are actually a necessary part of their life whereas something you love (i.e. ice cream) is disposable and can be replaced whenever
