Bridesmaid, bridal shower, wedding planning stories?
I am writing a play for a fundraising event, and it will be based on funny things that happen at a bridal shower. Please tell me your funniest/worst experiences about being a bridesmaid, planning a bridal shower, agreeing on bridesmaids dresses, etc. Did you ever have to deal with a back stabbing bridesmaid who did nothing for the shower but tried to take all the credit? Or how about a mother of the bride or groom who was hard to deal with? Anything along those lines would help me with ideas; also anything else you can think of that might fit in. And NO, it is NOT a wedding fundraiser; it has to do with helping homeless people. Thanks!
Also, any funny things you have witnessed at bridal showers you have attended would also be helpful.

I can tell you what happened at my bridal shower... I was told by my "best friend" that she would be throwing me a bridal shower. She picked a date that worked, and told me not to worry about a thing. So, a few days before the bridal shower, I had heard nothing about it, so I called to ask her what was going on, she replied "oh, sorry. I didn't send out the invitations, guess it's not happening." And then hung up. I didn't say anything, I hadn't asked for a bridal shower, so I was going to let it go. She called me about a week later, and said she rescheduled the shower, and this time it actually happened. But... she actually didn't do a thing for the shower except send out invitations, and she only sent them to a few people, not everyone on the list. In secret, she called my mom and asked her to fund the *entire* thing. My mom is really broke, but agreed because she's nice and didn't want me to miss out on the shower. Had I known this, I would have cancelled the entire thing. But anyway, cut to the day of the shower... My friend shows up, 1.5 hours late, and drunk. I was sitting outside with a couple friends, my mom, my stepmom, my stepsisters, (who were 13) and the future husband was there as well. She comes outside, and starts screaming "Let's play Stacy's ex-boyfriend charades!" She then proceeded to talk about all the guys I've dated, how stupid they all were, and how stupid I was for dating them. She mocked everyone I had ever dated, did impressions, and just made fun of me. She then went inside, got the cake, and threw it face down on the ground. All the while, she kept screaming "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE GETTING MARRIED AND NOT ME!!" I was so mortified, she was supposed to be my best friend, we'd known each other for close to 20 years. She did a number of other horrible things surrounding my wedding, so we aren't friends any more.

One of the brides I worked with had all cousins as her bride's maids. Ahead of time they had all made a "pact" to loose weight together to look their best by the wedding day. The bride actually called each cousin every week to ask for a "weigh in." Apparently she decided the other girls weren't losing enough weight, so on the day of the wedding shower she insisted that all the food that had been prepared for the party be thrown out without anyone eating a bight. Instead of playing the scheduled games she made all the guests (not just the bride's maids) get up and do jumping jacks for twenty minutes. Obviously most people just left. She was so frustrated that the bride returned all the gifts unopened.
Shockingly all the cousins still stood up with the bride at the wedding and honestly they all looked great. The bride and groom actually made a public apology at the reception for the whole thing. I felt really bad for the bride because she hadn't seen her cousins between the shower and the wedding and she looked mortified all day.

Back in 2006a lady from my church was getting remarried, and my mom and I decided it would be nice to throw this person a shower. We wanted it to be a suprise. Her fiance spilled the beans and she found out about the shower a couple weeks before. If you think that is bad keep reading...
The day of the shower finally gets here. My mom is in the office doing her job (she is the receptionist at church) and the bride also works for the church putting together food baskets. I go down to church that day to set up, and I tell the bride that this lady called my mom and wanted to come to the shower. The bride asked who, and I tell her, and unknown to my mom and I it was the groom's ex girlfriend (it gets worse)...
Later that night we're at the shower and everyone is having fun despite the fact the ex girlfriend is there. Then it's time to open gifts. The ex brought a gift. it was crotch less panties, and just as she opened them, in comes the pastor. The was the worst shower I planned. I felt bad for the bride, and thankfully she forgave me. I learned to only except RSVP from only those who got invitations.

When I was around 12, I went to my first bridal shower
It was for one of my cousins
They had it in an apartment in Queens
During the party, there were a knock on the door
the person below called and said there was a wild party going on above him
The police officers walked in, with a bunch of women sitting around, a lot on the floor opening presents. After the police left, my aunts went and walked around made as much noise they could.
I found this very funny, that the people that reacted after the police left was my aunts
A different shower
I went to a surprise showers that the girl stop by to pick something up at her mom house after painting the house they just got. She came in with paint in her hair and on her clothes
She was so embarrassed
Her mom house was large and free

I went to a bridal shower where the three precious flower girls were in attendance. One of the wedding guests got plastered and starting using foul language, telling crude jokes and eventually starting asking the little girls to get her refills on her drinks from the bar. I wish I could remember the specifics to help out a bit more but you get the gist....it was appalling at the time but made for great stories the next day.

I have heard great stories here about someone that refuse to pay for tents and decided to make their own with tarps and pvc pipes and the whole thing came crashing down on the guests as it was raining. Another lady wanted a fabulous Florida wedding and then a hurracaine came and most guests could not make it due to cancelled flights, high winds and wet grass impeded her garden ceremony and she was stuck with having her ceremony inside the hotel with NO air conditioning (no power) and everyone was sweaty and miserable. there was another bride that decided not to pay for expensive cake designers and decided to hire a friend's grandmother to make her wedding cake. She brough the design she wanted off from the internet and what she got was completely hideous! she posted pictures and it was really bad and embarrasing, it was not straigth, the piping of the decoration was sooo shaky, like someone had a stroke while doing it. It was bad.
Atr a wedding that I attended, the bride decided to put goldfohes in vases as center pieces and it was summer time, more than halff of the fishes were dead, yes, we have to eat looking at belly up fishes. The surviving ones were swallowed alive by drunken groomsmen. It was a disaster.
Good luck

One time a friend of mine gave a bridal shower for a co-worker (my friend was the MOH) and somebody from their office came and brought her young son along. The boy was bored and kept running in and out of the house. That was somewhat stressful.

Well, I was helping my cousin with a bridal shower she was hosting for her friend. None of the relatives of the groom had RSVPed, but they all showed up. My cousin had not prepared enough food or punch. I think that one of us went out and purchased more.
