Would gun control realy stop gun violence?

In Canada, G.B. and Australia, as stricter gun laws have gone into effect and firearms confiscated, the incidence of violent crime has gone up dramatically.

It seems that real life does not imitate the fantasy world of the gun control crowd. Just not a connection between anti gun arguments and the real world. Perhaps because the real world has actual people in it.

I, as a liberal will say, hand on my heart, no. It will not stop gun violence in the US. Nothing ever will. However gun control would certainly decrease it, assuming it is being applied properly. To ever try to stop a crime is a waste of time and resources. I think the best thing would be an increase in taxes to major corporations and people with a certain high income, and send it to the police. They can then use these extra funds to clamp down on gangs. The main reason your "law abiding" citizen feels they need a gun is because they're scared of gangs bursting through their door. Lower gang numbers, people buying guns decreases, less guns for psychos to get a hold of. Profit. Come on America, if the rest of the first world can do it, you can too.

Not completely, but a universally implemented (I believe the term is "federal law" in the US) system of gun control would greatly reduce the occurrence of gun crimes; at present there are virtually no restrictions on the availability of guns in America, meaning any idiot with an itchy trigger finger can buy a gun.

It's a simple equation; the more guns are freely available, the more gun crime happens. It is an indisputable fact, but it is a fact that the NRA dances around and pretends isn't true. Mexico does not have particularly strict gun laws; it is illegal in Mexico to carry a gun but it IS legal to own a gun and keep it in the home or private property. Mexico's problem is that it is under siege from heavily armed drugs gangs and their own government, police and courts are totally corrupt. There's nothing wrong per-se with Mexico's gun control laws, but it's not enough to make a difference in a Country that has lost the war against crime.

If America does not adopt gun control laws, it will become as poor and desperate as Mexico, and I think it will happen in less than 30 years. America is already bankrupt, and a crumbling society.

However, people are naive if they think they can stop the street gangs and the drug dealers from getting a gun to kill someone with. Chicago has had a ban on guns for over 30 years and it did nothing in stopping gun violence in that city. That's because Chicago has a huge street gang problem. 80% of the gun violence in cities like Chicago are Drug and Gang related. Most gun violence across America is drug and gang related.

Gun violence isn't the only kind of violence in America. The U.S also has thousands of people each year who are stabbed to death with a knife or who are bludgeoned to death with some kind of blunt object. "The U.S is a violent country! Until we deal with this violence problem as a whole, people will continue to be murdered with all kinds of weapons. Most notably, the human mind and human hand this is committing the murder.

Maybe in some cases where a person is too dumb to go around the system, but in most it would make no difference. The more restriction there is the bigger the black market becomes. The real loser is the law abiding citizen

Canada has some of the strictest gun control laws in the world. There is still quite a bit of gun violence here.

If gun control was implemented then the drug cartels and gangs would own the streets.We'd be like Mexico.No bans on any kind of weapon should be implemented,if you want to lower crime rates then we need to educate people better.That simple.And violent crime is actually at an all-time low right now,it would soar because people would use homemade explosives(there are tons of guides on the Internet on how to cheaply and easily make explosives)and that would kill more people than they even wanted to kill anyway.Plus knives!Keep doing what we're doing now and throw in some better mental health services.

Mexico has not instituted strict gun laws. Go find whomever told you that and give him a good sharp smack upside the head for being stupid.

Now: there are no man-made laws that function perfectly, and no gun control law will work perfectly. Bans on drunk driving don't prevent all instances of drunk driving - shall we then just abandon said laws? Laws don't prevent all instances of auto theft - shall we just drop all laws against stealing cars? How about, instead, we get real and accept that far stricter gun laws will seriously cut down on misuse of firearms while not entirely stopping all such abuse.
