Can I sue a doctor for prescribing excess Miralax which caused horrible pain and bloating?
I visited with my doctor because I was concerned about a my unwanted, rapid weight loss, He prescribed 3 packets of Miralax daily. This caused extreme bloating, and horrid gas pain, necessity to wear diapers, a dependency on laxatives and an additional 17 pound weight loss. I obtained a copy of my medical records and found the doctor had lied in saying he told me to take 2 doses. Is this grounds to file a law suit against the physician or clinic? The symptoms have continued for months so I am miserable.
I am a senior citizen with mild dyslexia I didn't have any idea that Miralax was a laxative as I had never heard that word before.and I trusted the doctor to know what he was prescribing so I did not read information that came with the medicine. The pharmacist had to show me where it was located at Walgreen's. I contacted the doctor several times to explain the horrible side effects however, he continued to insist that I take it. I scheduled another appointment with the doctor for a face to face conversation to try to further explain my symptoms however, he became insistent again and argued with me saying "Miralax is the most gentle thing we have on the market today and you must use a full packet thee times daily for the rest of your life. And I want you to drink lots of water."

Not unless you can prove that he lied and not that you misunderstood him. Also, did you contact him back when you were having complications? Why did you keep taking the drugs if you were having so much trouble?

I agree with the first two. As a patient, I believe it is ultimately my responsibility to make sure I understand my medication and its side effects. You should read the info that comes with the medication for side effects, and notify your doc if you experience any. Why did you not ask your doc when the symptoms started?
Do you have written instructions on how you were supposed to take it that differ from your medical record?

Your doctor prescribed a laxative for weight loss? And you didn't question that? And you didn't call him back when you continued to lose weight or when the gas pains started, and certainly when you had to start wearing diapers? Something is missing here.

no if you dont know how to read side effects then that is your fault nobody elses you would get laughed at in court if you tried to sue every prescription pill has side effects and some happen to have bloating as a side effect if you dont like it then dont take it thats your fault for not reading.
so you made 4 long meaningless paragraphs complaining and making excuses its your fault no matter what BS excuse you come up with you should have asked what it does but you didnt OH WELL.
