Do you find books on motivation/self-help/self-improvement/leadership to be useful?

I've been wanting to read Empires of the Mind by Denis Waitley for a while now. Not because I have to re-establish my goals or something, I'm just curious. I don't usually read books like, this but what the heck, you know?

Do you find books like these to actually help with perspective and the way you see the world? Or do you think they don't help because they're too generalized?

Curiosity is a good reason to read a book. Go for it!

I think useful is a hard thing to pin down for self-help and self-improvement type books. A lot of them contain heaps of terrible or at least very over-generalized (or specific advice derived from anecdote that's then over-generalized) advice. They're usually not useful in the case you read them uncritically and just accept everything stated without question.

However, providing you read critically and really think about the advice being given, they can be helpful in the sense you're talking about. Just seeing how others view the world differently, or can view the world differently, can be very interesting and insightful. Trying to understand what lead the author to that way of thinking can be even more interesting and insightful. Thinking about various situations where the advice given might fit and might not fit can also be useful, and in this sense the over-generalization of much of the advice given can actually be beneficial. After all, it's not just being able to see things a different way that's valuable, but also figuring out what different ways of seeing things are/might be better (or worse) than others in various respects and in various situations.

It depends on the book. I have been using self help books for years. Some of them come with exercises. Some books have made a great difference to my perspective by just reading them, others have literally changed aspects of my life when I do the exercises. Doing the exercises makes the book relevant and personal to you.

they are between us... Ray's total foundation for the e book replaced into to warn the threat of destroying understanding so as that the authorities might want to administration the source of understanding. hi, wait a minute! isn't that a similar element they are doing in IRAN today, locking the fact up, threaten death to those who exhibit the fact? And in China, the "eco-friendly Dam" software so the authorities can double verify on the advice on the pcs and to resign any "unauthorized" thoughts? And contained in the "loose international", attempting to tie IP down so as that no individual "comprehend" or "do" or "use" that IP, without severe money move? I examine the e book 40 2 years in the past in college and convinced, there are some unsightly words, and the total international lived a druggies paradise, with the large length leisure platforms, and song pumped instantly into their ears. (Hmmm, have you ever been to wonderful purchase at present?) the point, so as that the human beings might want to be too busy to question authority, and those "wicked books" like the Bible, and the different textile that would want to reason "wondering". And this consequences contained in the leaders bringing on a conflict that destorys the total gadget. I wager he not in any respect examine the in basic terms suitable few chapters the position the "fireman" heart transformations and he turns right into a e book reader. And the in basic terms suitable bankruptcy, the position the few surviving "readers" carry jointly jointly to keep what replaced into contained in the books that they nonetheless remembered and shared. It figures some born againer, holy guy, might want to merchandise to it, even as his daughter is going to "Transformers", "quick and furious", "Twilight"and watches the fact television shows about sluts chasing wealthy adult adult males, etc. They walk between us....
