Stray kitten seems sick?

My neighbor gave my son a kitten.Apparantly it was in her yard and her dog was trying to harm it,people throw animals out around here all the time and my best guess is someone waited till the kitten was weaned and then dumped it. I have had cats my whole life, and usually know what to do but this little one seems a bit sickly. He was starved and covered in fleas when he came,I bathed him and gave him food..mostly dry,but my hubby gave the kitten wet food. I wormed the kitten and and gave it its first distemper vaccine. Now the kitten has very loose stools and watery eyes. I thought the change in food and worm medicine may have caused the loose stools, but what about the eyes? I thought it might be from it being outside in the cooler air then coming into a warm dry house, but I am not sure.I can't afford a trip to the vet right now unless it is an emergency.Any tips on the loose stool and watery eyes? also can the wormer and distemper vaccine cause any side effects?

Update:

----The wormer was the recommended one for his age,I got it at my farm co op-his little tummy was swollen,no visible worms in stool. I can't be positive of his age, only that he eats well,in my guestimation he is 8-9 weeks.I just want the little guy to feel better and have a chance

the womer and vaccine can cause these side effects but it sounds like this kitten also has an upper respiratory infection which can present itself with watery eyes then go to the stuffy nose which will require antibiotics. Since the kitten was loaded with fleas and you wormed the cat, I hope it was a multi wormer to cover round worm and tapeworm. If the kitten is over 8 weeks of age, apply a tube of Advantage for cats to keep the fleas gone. If he will be an indoor cat, he will only need the Advantage about 3 times a year. If allowed outside, he will need the Advantage monthly. Thank you for taking such good care of this little guy.

I agree with the upper respiratory infection. My boyfriend's mom brought a young cat in to her family once his eye became injured and he was obviously in need of treatment for that. Once neutered, dewormed, etc he became quite sick with what I would call a cold. He would wheeze so loud at one point I almost rushed him to the vet in the middle if the night for fear of him being deathly ill with pneumonia. His eyes were so watery too - it was a bad time for him in general. I would call your vet and explain the symptoms and everything you gave to the kitten and see if you should be concerned enough to bring him in it of it's something that will naturally take its course. It sounds to me like the kitten is having the same issues as "my" cat had though. Just make sure he's comfortable and warm and watch for any worsening of any of his symptoms such as vomiting after meals. I think with some TLC he'll be just fine. And I love that you're giving this kitty a chance. Not many people would! Xox

The kitten has an upper respiratory infection. It may have caught it from being put outside in the cold/cooler weather. You NEED to get it on antibiotics ASAP!! I rescued 7 baby kitties once from a neighbor. The minute I got them home, I started them on amoxicillin.(I kept some around for these reasons--my vet used to let me buy it bcuz I rescued LOTS of cats.) One died from pneumonia,4 were adopted to new homes, and 2 of them had permanent damage to their eyes.In fact, they each had to have one of their eyes removed. The one I still have, her name is "Pinx", her other eye is basically blind, but she's an indoor cat and she can see shapes of light & dark. She does miraculous!!She's even caught birds on our deck-which I took away!! I'm telling you this bcuz I can't stress enuf that the kitten NEEDS that antibiotic ASAP!! It was a shame that my neighbors let these lit'l kittens get so sick that they lost their eyes!! And all bcuz they wouldn't spend less than $10 on medicine!! Go call--NOW!!!
