What to name a black male cat?

My daughter and her kids are big Star Wars fans, so they named their black kitty Darth Vader, usually shortened to just Vader. Don't dis "Shadow", we have an Ocicat whose formal registered name is "Madame Viola", shortened by her breeder to Viola. Ocis are of course spotted, not black, but they tend to be very bonded to their humans, and she follows me EVERYWHERE. One of her nicknames is shadow, from the way she shadows me all the time. Today is the first anniversary of her adoption, so she and our other Oci Saphira are catebrating.

It is my belief that cats will "name themselves" and it is up to US to FIGURE IT OUT! It took me nearly 2 months to discover one of my cats' name. But I know when I have discovered them is when they "fit" their personality and you look at them and say, "You could not be ANY OTHER name but that name!"

It is never easy and you have a lot of great names. We used to have a couple black cats years ago - they were names Sooti (Sooty)-(coal soot) and Cinders. The best way is to watch your new kitten for awhile and a name will usually come to you. I agree - I don't care for the common names either. You are to best one to judge so take your time.

Keep it simple,i have had a couple of black cats called sooty,one called blackie,one called ebony, you should have a simple name,that way the cat gets to know their name quickly.Oh i forgot,one was called misty too! I just love black cats!
