Walking vs Jogging question?

Will I burn the same amount of a person jogging if i walk twice the distance but half the phase of the jogger's run?

Hypothetically, If Jogger is going 5km/hr for 5km and Walker is going 2.5km/hr for 10km, will they burn the same amount of calories?

Update:

*same amount of calories, sorry for that typo

This is essentially true. "Brisk" walking uses energy at about half the rate running does. However, since it's less exerting, most folks can walk longer... An hour's walk would use about as much as a 30-minute "jog".

That's part of the problem... Walking takes a lot more time to achieve the same result, calorie-wise.

And....For most people, walking is never going to be aerobic. Most people who are reasonably fit cannot get their heart rate into the aerobic training zone (65-75% of max) by walking alone.

You can do this by adding resistance. Hand weights, as in the "Heavyhands" system, ski-poles, heavy backpacks... That sort of thing.

    Roughly,,, Walking does burn calories.

Even tho 2.5 km/h is a bit slow for walking and 5km/h is very slow jogging.

If you are moving faster, then you will use mite energy. Walking doesn't do anything. We walk 100s off km every week.
