What is Worship? How can I tell it apart from regard?
Sometimes I see or hear people say that people worship themselves, or sex, or money rather than god.
So, what is worship?
Please no dictionary definitions.

Without going to the dictionary, the word worship means to adore, to hold in great esteem, to place above all other (things or people)...which is why someone can be said to "worship" money (or the accumulation of wealth). To simply regard something is to notice it; regard doesn't necessarily imply elevated status -- until you start attaching adjectives to it (like "high")

That's just hyperbolic (exaggerated) language intended to mean that someone "really loves" himself, or money, or whatever it is. No one seriously "worships" those things, no one gets down on his or her knees and prays to them.
Worship is utter adoration combined with religious faith. You kneel or bow before a god, you pray, you adore, you develop various rites and rituals and services intended to please the object of your worshipful adoration, your faith. You make offerings.
I'm sure you see the difference between that and mere "regard".

What they are referring to is what people invest thier time and energy into. If you really think your body is amazing, you work out all the time to the point which you ignoe opportunities that GOD presents before you, then, in essence, you are worshipping yourself.

Regard is acknowledgment, worship is to devote your life to someone or something, to put that first in your life.
