Is it better to do workout in reps or power through?

Is it better to do your workouts in sets or just power through , even though it hurts?

I typically do sets of 40 jumping jacks, take a small break, then do 40 more and then so on.. (that was an example to go with the question)

    Sets, and exercise every other day. Remember to not hold your breath. And drink plenty of water. And stretch AT THE END to avoid muscle cramps. Start your exercise routine on your non-dominant side.
